Hair dye in pregnancy

Hi all, what are you thoughts and advice on having your hair dyed in pregnancy?

ive got an appointment booked for what will be 11+4 and I tend to usually go for highlights / balayage so the dye doesn’t really have much contact if any with my scalp… do you think it’s safe for me to do this?

many thanks 😊

Yes of course it is. Your skin can become more sensitive during pregnancy so you should always have a patch test even if already had one previously. But otherwise you’ll be absolutely fine

Most advice seems to say after the first 12 weeks but I didnt chance it while I was pregnant anyway.

My suggested sticking with highlights but not doing the roots to avoid contact with the scalp which I’m happy with.

Why take the risk. The nhs guidance isn't saying no risk eg 'most research, although limited' ... risks of chemical substances harming the baby is much lower (but not zero risk)

I carried on having balayage through pregnancy, like you say, the dye doesn’t come into contact with the scalp. I had to stop having eyelash and brow tinting though - my usual salon wouldn’t do it even with a patch test.

You can't say if it has an impact to baby or not, it isn't something you would ever know. Could have caused damage that impacts years down the line. Could cause nothing. Why risk it for your hair.
