Spotting & Watery Discharge 11+5

YellowLoafers · 13/06/2023 14:38

Hi All

I’m 11+5 with an IVF pregnancy. I had heavy bleeding around 5-6 weeks, which the IVF clinic found a reason for in the 7 week scan, was all gone and fine by 8 week scan. Baby had good heartbeat, but with the bleed and IVF I’ve been really anxious ever since. My 12w scan is on Friday.

I had a lot of watery discharge over the weekend and I was really worried I was leaking fluid. Called my midwife on Monday who messaged me back and told me to call maternity triage. I did that, but they won’t see me as I’m under 20 weeks. Said unlikely to be fluid and as long as no bleeding no need to panic…but I could call my GP. I did that and they said the same and not worth doing a swab to test if it is a fluid leak as so unlikely.

Last night I started to have brown discharge. It stopped, then about an hour ago I started spotting red. I realised there’s an EPU in my town so called them, but they can’t see me before next week. Advice was the watery discharge unlikely to be fluid and to go to A&E if bleeding gets heavy and/or has clots.

Has anyone had red spotting and all turned out OK? Is watery discharge normal?

Thanks for any advice xx

Can you find somewhere near you to go for a private scan? Loads of places offer then from 50-100£ and will give you some peace of mind
I have been twice myself

Chocolatebean · 13/06/2023 14:49

I had what you describe and it turned out to be a polyp on my cervix it’s definitely worth getting checked for that xxx

Hazelnuttella · 13/06/2023 14:50

A lot of discharge can be normal in pregnancy, I used to wear a pantyliner due to the amount… it was a lot.

Hope all goes well.

YellowLoafers · 13/06/2023 16:05

Thank you for your responses, it’s really helpful 💐

I had this 2 weeks ago, at 15 weeks. I had loads of watery discharge then a gush of blood. No one in EPU, 111 or GP was that bothered and certainly wouldn't offer me a scan which was very upsetting. They said it would be too early to stop a MC.
I was able to get my midwife to check for a heartbeat and one was found. The bleeding stopped and I haven't had it since, and went to have the heartbeat checked again as I was paranoid 2 days after the first time.
Hope things work out for you.

YellowLoafers · 13/06/2023 18:31

It is upsetting @justsayso i was a bit confused by midwife’s text message advice to contact maternity triage, once they told me there’s a 20 week threshold. The triage line and the EPU were both kind, but I guess there’s nothing they can do and so prioritise those women they can help. I do get it, but it’s tough when you feel so worried.

I'm so pleased it was good news for you and thank you for sharing.

I've had so much discharge since being pregnant, most of which has been watery. I figured it's normal.

YellowLoafers · 13/06/2023 18:54

@TTCJJB Thanks, good to know you’ve experienced it. The maternity triage said it wasn’t anything to worry about, unless you start bleeding which I have 😞Crossing my fingers it stops.

Hello love. I've been through this twice but it wasn't good news.

My fingers are crossed for you, here like everyone else if you need to talk xx

CR7 · 13/06/2023 19:06

@YellowLoafers did you look for a private scan x

YellowLoafers · 13/06/2023 19:26

@HVPRN I’m so sorry for your losses, it’s heartbreaking.

@CR7 Yes, there are a couple of places fairly close to me that seem well reviewed, so will get in touch with one of them tomorrow x

I honestly think that technology is the worst things for eager parents ..

I am old .

When we were hoping for babies you had to go three months without a period and then go to doctors.

How many miscarriages happen in that time . 13 for me that's for sure..

Stop all the testing . You can't be a 'little bit pregnant' .. miscarriage is not 'the loss of a child' it's a child that was never meant to be because it would never survive outside a uterus .

The reason we didn't say anything for three months is because it means you have more chance of carrying to term .

Everything is meant for a reason.

MIBnightmare · 13/06/2023 20:47

... and before anyone jumps on and accused me of being anti disabled - asd/not neurotypical.. that is not what I mean.. a live baby is a live baby to be loved and adored .. they have the ability to be here. but a miscarriage is nearly (incompetent cervix the exception) is nature saying it's not quite right ..

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 13/06/2023 20:53

I bled throughout my ivf pregnancy. Are you using vaginal pessaries at all? That was the cause of my bleeding they were irritating the cervix

YellowLoafers · 13/06/2023 21:42

@MIBnightmare I am sorry for all of your miscarriages. In my case, I “hoped for babies” for a long time. Then I had IVF. Your comment about “stop all the testing” isn’t fair. I had IVF and I tested when the clinic asked me to as part of that treatment.

@Whatelsecouldibecalled Gosh all the way through, that must’ve been tough. I am on pessaries yes and clinic advised switching to back door 😳 to minimise irritation to the cervix. I’ve been doing that a while now, weird to get used to, but a lot less messy!

@CR7 Thank you, I will do x

Hi@YellowLoafers

I also had IVF pregnancy and had dark brown spotting (looked like when your period is about to start) from week 8-16. I used to have it 2-3 times a week (like 2-3 days in a row then it would suddenly stop and then start again a few days after). It was a small amount and only when I wiped and never in my underwear.
I had 3 scans done at EPU in that period, I was on progesterone suppositories (used them back door) and all the scans were fine. The first scan I was told I had a very small haematoma but it was never written in the scan report and the next scan I asked about the haematoma and was told there was nothing now and must have been very small since it wasn’t mentioned in the scan report. Anyway after the first spotting I was referred to see a gynecologist consultant at the hospital but it took 2 months to get an appointment, I stopped progesterone at week 12 and saw the consultant around week 16 and he said it’s very normal to have spotting when you’re on progesterone.

Regarding the fluid do you feel like you have weed your pants? It’s very normal to produce more discharge and feel wet all the time during pregnancy. I felt quite often that I had weed my pants and was told by the midwife that if you think it’s amniotic fluid put a pad on lie down for about an hour and then stand up, if it’s fluid you’ll feel it coming out and your pad will be wet/soaked.

My baby is now 1 year old. I hope everything turns out good for you ❤️❤️❤️

gogohmm · 14/06/2023 08:31

@MIBnightmare

This is actually spot on. Even when I had my children, pregnancy tests didn't show up until a few days after your period was due. Here people are getting excited about being pregnant before the pregnancy has established. What we called a late heavy period I'm now being described as a miscarriage where in reality it was never viable. Nature isn't always the kindest, it's incredibly upsetting for those struggling to conceive but we need to separate these very early stages from later miscarriages, loosing a baby at 14 weeks as my friend did is quite different.

@MIBnightmare @gogohmm

These are two of the most thoughtless, idiotic comments I've ever read on here.

Not the time or place for your ridiculous insights.

Ignore them op.

Lots of us (me included) have had bleeding in early pregnancy and thigs were fine. Hope you get a scan today for your peace of mind.

Agreed! Why would they say something so horrid and demeaning.

OP, although my news didn't turn out to be good (I had two 12 week miscarriages & an earlier miscarriage that DID matter) I am currently breastfeeding my rainbow 6m old. I have every hope you'll be okay Flowers

YellowLoafers · 14/06/2023 12:10

@K2012 @Vintagecreamandcottagepie Thanks for your kind words and experiences, really appreciated. I had heavy bleeding early on and a haematoma was found, but gone by 8 weeks. The light bleeding has completely gone so that’s a relief. I spoke to private scanning place this morning, they were so sweet but can’t see me until Saturday so that’s after my NHS scan. She put my mind at rest loads and said as already seen heartbeat and Bleeding gone it’s likely all is OK. She also said she’s a sonographer at the hospital so she might well see me on Friday! I’ve left a message with another scanning place so will see if I hear back.

@HVPRN So sorry for your losses, they ALL mattered. Pay no attention to PPs who are trying to minimise what you and others went through. It’s odd and spiteful that people come onto a post clearly marked 11+5…Congratulations on your rainbow baby ❤️

@MIBnightmare @gogohmm
thoughtless disgusting comments - I think you should get off the pregnancy topic!!!

my miscarriage at almost 12 weeks was traumatic and got lodged in my cervix - How dare you say that isn't a loss.

who are you to decide what can be upsetting and what not.
seriously most vile thing I have read on here and that's saying something.

YellowLoafers · 14/06/2023 15:02

@BagelO Agreed. Not sure why PPs have chosen to spill their bile here, but thank you for your support. I’m so sorry for your loss x
