I didn't feel anything first time until around 23 weeks. Is this your first pregnancy? 18 weeks would be quite early to feel anything much (although, as your friends have found, it's not impossible).

I saw a friend of mine who is 22 weeks at the weekend; you really couldn't tell she is pregnant at all. Me, on the other hand, I looked like a whale by 16 weeks. Different women carry differently (and you tend to show later with first babies, too).

You have nothing to worry about IMO especially if this is your first baby. Movements are hard to feel to begin with and might not be noticable until 20/21 weeks.

Also, don't worry about your size. I have seen women about to give birth to healthy babies who you could hardly tell were pregnant. Everyone is different.

The sickness is a fairly sure way of knowing that your baby is doing fine!

Oh yes. I couldn't even walk down the raw meat aisle in the supermarket for months either pregnancy. And rubbish bins, and other things that normally wouldn't bother me at all... yuck!

rosemarybiggs · 21/02/2008 18:47

worst thing is my dp owns a restaurant and is a chef and no matter what he does i can still smell food on him. poor man ! lol x

when i was pregnant whether my dp was clean or got in from work he had a scent i couldnt stand for 3 months i gagged if he came near me lol

dont know what it ewas but he had a scent that repulsed me lol i felt so sorry for him leaning in for a kiss and me gagging in his face

luckily after 3 long months of sleeping next to this slemmy beggar i awoke and found him the sexiest thing ever and luckily this made up for the 3 mths of being repulsed by him

but every thing did smell worse i could smell someones cooking from down the street and hate it

Minkus · 21/02/2008 19:14

bubblagirl and rosemary I also couldn't stand dh's man smell for the first four or five months! It wasn't his deoderant/ after shave or our shower gel/ washing powder just his own personal smell- I think he got really offended! Normally it makes me a bit horny (and did from about 5 months on) but I just wanted to retch to begin with, poor chap! I'm 20 weeks pg with our second but I like his smell just fine now, just a shame for us both that it doesn't make me feel in the least bit naughty at the moment tee hee

bubblagirl · 21/02/2008 19:42

lol shame it didnt carry on once our ds was born i find him repulsive again now lol

bebejones · 21/02/2008 20:03

I can totally agree on the smell thing! Have had really bad morning sickness, am 17 weeks now and still sick everyday! The worst things for me were: The fridge (I started holding my breath whenever I opened the door, Toast (weird I know but even the thought of it made me heave!) and petrol/car fumes. As for feeling the baby move I think it's just completely different for everyone. I started feeling 'flutters' at 15+5 and thought it was wind!! Then I started feeling it more and more and MW said it was probably the baby as it is very active....they always seem to struggle maintaining heartbeat and scans! (have had alot of checks coz of being so sick!) I'd say not to worry, everything I've read says anytime between 14 and 20 weeks depending where you look!!

snooks · 21/02/2008 20:07

I didn't feel ds1 til 22 weeks. With ds2 it was about 15 weeks, with this pregnancy also about 15.

It's only after 20 weeks at least that the flutters seem to turn into definite kicks (IME anyway, tho everyone is different).

rosemarybiggs · 22/02/2008 15:24

thats so funny i couldnt stand the smell of the fridge either i had to hold my breth every time i opend it too xx
