Hi everyone,

I would greatly appreciate everyone's input, as quite apprehensive at present.
Myself and my husband decided to seek private IVF treatment after failing to conceive for one year due to mild pcos. prior to going ahead with this treatment they advised a trasnvaginal ultrasound take place.

The ultrasound took place around 4 and half weeks from last menstrual period. During the ultrasound the fertility consultant stated there was nothing in the cavity where pregnancy is seen and that my period was imminent.

Fast forward another two weeks (now around 7 weeks since LMP), i have yet to have a period so decided to take a pregnancy test before paying deposit for private IVF. One was a regular test (which showed a faint line) and a second was clearblue which showed positive and indicated 2-3 weeks pregnant. At first I was over the moon thinking I am pregnant, but now worried if I had a miscarriage and why the fertility consultant didn't see anything in the cavity and she also said my period was imminent.
I have not had any pain or bleeding, except light spotting/brown discharge about 3 weeks into my period.
My pregnancy ultrasound not till week 12.
Any help would really be appreciated as concerned I may have miscarriage or ectopic.

What had your doctor said?

They wouldn’t have necessarily been able to see anything at 4.5 weeks, especially if they weren’t looking for it.

Have you done more than one test to look for line progression?

I've only spoken to my GP on the phone who referred me to my midwife. I don't have an appointment with midwife till a couple more weeks.
This is my first pregnancy and have pcos so have been googling a lot which has put my mind in a frenzy.

They wouldn't be able to see anything on a scan at 4.5 weeks. I had a scan at 4 weeks (due to ohss from ivf) and the notes say no foetus or gestational sac, visible but thickened endometrium seen. I would get a private scan after 6-8 weeks. The longer you wait, the more chance you will have to see baby and their heartbeat, assuming a viable pregnancy. Best of luck OP.

So I did do another clewrblue pregnancy test 4 days from original test showed same thing pregnant and 2-3weeks. But Its now been 7 weeks since LMP?

Most often implantation happens around the time you are due your period so you may have only just implanted or were about to when the scan happened. This would make sense that a test 2 weeks later said 2-3 as that counts from implantation. There would be nothing to see at the time as there wouldn't really be anything there yet. Since the test 4 days later still says 2-3 I think that's really normal I wouldn't worry.

Technically the NHS will date you at 7 weeks but you will find your dates will be behind this and I don't think its anything to worry about. You possibly just ovulated later than expected which is normal with pcos, cycles tend to be longer than the average. I'd say now your most likely between 4 and 5 weeks pregnant.

I should also explain the nhs can only take dates from the lmp dates until you get measured at your 12 week scan then they will date you more accurately. I was a week behind what I was expecting at my 12 week scan, she's 1 now.
