Morning sickness first pregnancy but not second?

Hi everyone,

I am anxious so hoping for reassurance

With my first pregnancy I had moderate/severe morning sickness from about 5 weeks 5 days of pregnancy. Not bad enough to be diagnosed as HG, but still vomiting 2/3 times a day.

I am now at the same stage in my second pregnancy and apart from a few pangs of nausea, no morning sickness - yet.

Is this normal? Looking for success stories of people who had MS for one pregnancy but not for another...

Thanks so much

Hi when I was pregnant with my first baby (she's now 18 months) I felt fine no sickness or anything I didn't even feel pregnant.
I had a miscarriage in March at 7 weeks and again didn't feel pregnant no sickness!
I'm pregnant again and I'm 9 weeks and the sickness has been so bad 🤢 for the last 2 weeks but finally easing off.

Hope this helps a bit 😌 and congratulations xx

I’ve had 3 successful pregnancies. One with horrible ms and two with absolutely none. All pregnancies are different. Confronts your happy news

With my 1st DC I was physically sick a good few times, not daily though. Now 16 weeks with DC2 and although I have felt sick until 12 weeks ish I was never physically sick. Every pregnancy is different x

I had hg with my first, in and out of hospital on drips, anti sickness meds and still vomited and had a very small baby at 39 weeks.

With my second, I wasn't sick once, never felt sick at all. Delivered a huge baby at 38 weeks. Never had a single symptom of pregnancy apart from sore boobs now and again.

I was terribly sick with my first, vomiting 4-8 times a day and constantly feeling sick. Pretty much couch bound and useless for 3 months

Second I had an early misscarraige (11 weeks) and suspected something was wrong because I just felt great the whole time, like no symptoms at all.

Third pregnancy (currently 38 weeks) and I had tiny bits of on off nausea in the beginning which went away as soon as I ate so very manageable. It was great, symptomatic enough to be comforting without being debilitating at all! It's the dream level of symptoms for me!

Yes! How you feel now is exactly how I feel. Little bits of nausea at times, but no sickness by any means. I am also utterly exhausted and feel like I have been hit by a train! Doing anything is exhausting and a huge effort...

That all sounds pretty positive to me, your body has maybe just adjusted to the hormones better this time? Who knows!

Blessedbethefruitz · 11/06/2023 12:07

I was sick daily with my first ds. With my second, a dd, I had slight nausea occasionally and that was it :)

Janedoelondon · 11/06/2023 12:08

@Ged94 I was also reading online hormone levels can vary hugely by several orders of magnitude for each week of a healthy pregnancy, ie hCG levels can be 200 - 7,100 IU/L at 5 weeks... so a huge range!!! Levels are probably different for each pregnancy which may explain?!

My first pregnancy with DD1 I was sick multiple times a day from about 6 weeks to 22 weeks. And when I wasn't being sick I was utterly nauseous.

DD2 I had no sickness at all. Felt pretty much fine, barely any nausea.

It's very true that pregnancies can be very different each time around.

Utterlypeanuterly · 11/06/2023 12:14

I had HG in my first pregnancy from around 6 weeks. By 8 weeks I was in hospital on a drip. Second time around I didn't have any symptoms at all till I was nearly 8 weeks. I had HG again but took medication for a few weeks. First time round I was sick the entire pregnancy. The second time it went away completely at 15 weeks but returned in the final couple of weeks.

It's impossible to say but hopefully you might not have any sickness this time.

Thanks all for your comments!

I am now over 6 weeks and the nausea has kicked in, but it is not as bad as it was for my first pregnancy by a long way!
