I’m having a bit of a freak out over here, please don’t judge me as I didn’t know, but could do with a bit of a handhold/ advice.
I am 6 weeks pregnant (1st time) and had my hair professionally coloured this week (balayage with bleach) I didn’t tell the hairdresser I’m pregnant as I’m only 6 weeks and had no idea it could be an issue.
I have discovered today there is advice against colouring hair until 2nd trimester. (I genuinely didn’t know this before going 😥)
im so so worried I have put my pregnancy in danger and can’t stop worrying about it. I plan to call the midwife in the morning, I know I can’t turn back the clock and done is done but any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I dyed my hair at 5 weeks ish but no bleach. I spoke to a few people before and the hairdresser and they said it was fine. I'm 16 weeks now, try not to worry x

TheHopefulMum · 09/06/2023 22:26

I really wouldn't worry I have my hair bleached every 5-6 weeks and continued to do so with all my 3 DC's and it was never an issue at all.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 09/06/2023 22:28

I had my hair coloured with bleach every 4 weeks. All the way through my pregnancy. My DD is now 10. Honestly. It will be fine.

Thankyou all for the advice and kind words so far guys, this is my first baby and I’m so scared of messing up 😣
it’s a lesson learnt for sure, seems there’s so many innocuous things that I would never have even thought of that can catch you out when pregnant xx

You are absolutely fine. Some people used to worry that the hair colour could be absorbed by the skin and pass on to baby. But this can’t happen. The only risk factor for dying your hair is that your skin is more sensitive so you should do a patch test.

Just use nhs guidelines for what you can and can’t do and stay off Google, or it’ll be a long and anxious pregnancy. There is so much misinformation online. Stay away.

Wise words @PickledScrump i will stay away from doctor google!!
Thankyou for your help xx

They recommend not dying hair because your hormones might cause it to go a funny colour/damage hair not because it's a danger to your baby

dementedpixie · 11/06/2023 20:38

There is no warning against colouring hair in the 1st trimester. You and your baby will be fine. Pregnancy can affect the way the colour takes to the hair but it hasn't been shown to be unsafe for the baby

Going forward defo check any beauty treatments including massages with whoever is doing them. Even brown lamination is a no when pregnant and essential oils are also a no x

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/06/2023 21:06

I dyed my hair every few weeks during pregnancy I can't stand the greys- didn't know that was a thing! My baby is perfect x

londondinnerout · 11/06/2023 21:14

I'm old. I had my hair bleached, highlighted, tinted, you name it, all the way through two healthy pregnancies. Both babies were fine. I was fine. We knew nothing in those days about hair colour issues!

Stressedoutforever · 12/06/2023 08:45

I think the main reason is because your hormones can effect the colour rather than harming baby
