Cervical ectropion bleeding in pregnancy

So I’ve bled twice after a bowel movement (sorry 🙈) and doctors already told me I have cervical ectropion when I went to get checked out last year. How often does this last during pregnancy? I went for a scan yesterday at 8+5 but the sonographer said there is no internal bleeding and baby is (so far) fine. Given my previous miscarriages can’t help but worry!

Hey, I had this with first DC. I had some bleeding at 5/6 weeks not sure if that's what caused that though. At 20 weeks I had a very heavy bleed where I had to spend morning in hospital caused by the ectophy. All was fine with baby and I made it to 40+2 with no more bleeding. Baby born healthy.

However over 3 years later my cervical ectophy has not gone. They could see it on my last smear. I am now almost 16 weeks with DC2 and all ok so far.

I never had an issue after a bowel movement but have had bleeding after sex depending on position.

No one mentioned to me that it increased the risk of misscarrige although I know bleeding in pregnancy is very worrying. Hospital told me not to worry that it was coming from the cervix not inside the womb x

@Tryingtoconceivenumber2 thanks for your reply! I’ve had cervical ectropian for years (bleeding after sex, when i tried to stop using tampons and use the moon cup instead I’d always bleed so gave up, when I have my smear tests I bleed), but have never had it after a bowel movement until now!
what is an Ectophy sorry? Glad everything was ok in the end.
yes I’ve read online and told by my gp that cervical ectropian isn’t anything to worry about but when im pregnant and see brown spotting in my pants can’t help but worry! 😣

I have a really large cervical ectropian, which I didn't have pre pregnancy because I'd had IVF so my cervix was always on show, it's just been caused by pregnancy hormones.
I had spotting at 21 weeks which is how they found it. I then had a big bleed at 24 weeks and multiple bleeds up until 32 weeks that included clots coming away. All of these were caused by they ectropian, as my cervix was closed and no bleeding seen on ultrasound.
I was given a course of steroids at the last bleed because it kept restarting, but once they removed the clots from my cervix it stopped. I'm now 36+4 and that was my last bleed. I'm being induced on Monday at 37 weeks due to a multitude of factors (not just the ectropian bleeds). So it's been stressful but baby is fine, growing well and has never been distressed during the bleeds.
I did stop work early and don't lift, do heavy exercise or squats during yoga etc, but tbh I don't think it made much difference, my bleeds were all random. Any bleeding in pregnancy is terrifying, but the medical staff have always been fairly calm that because it's the ectropian the baby is safe as it's away from them. They do always reassure me to still go up and be checked everytime and they've admitted to keep an eye after some of the bigger bleeds.

@TTCxox It's always a worry when you're bleeding. Just to offer some reassurance I have had some bleeding on two occasions after a bowel movement, once was just brown discharge that didn't even reach my underwear. The second was about 3/4 spots of blood that dripped into the bowl. As soon as I'd been to the loo it stopped. I've had a scan since and all is fine. Assume it's linked to the cervical ectropian.

How much bleeding have you had?

I've also had cervical ectropian with my first pregnancy. Started not long after 20 week scan and think I had it on and off throughout the rest of the pregnancy. First time I was alarmed but eventually got used to it although did get it checked out a couple of times in triage.

@TTCxox ectophy is just another word the docs used for it. Yes I always bleed a lot after my smear. I wonder whether mine will ever go now, guess I will see after I have this one.

Try not too worry, I know it's hard x

I had this during my first pregnancy and my baby will be 21 in July, I know it's scary to see but honestly you will be fine, best of luckxxx
