Is it worth buying a strep C testing kit online?

Hi all

I'm considering buying a testing kit online because it's not routinely offered by my a/n clinic. Has anyone else done this? Is it worth it? I'm wondering too - if it comes out positive what will the docs do?

Thanks!

I'm responsible for instigating the test. The one the nhs offer (if ever they offer it to you) is only 50% accurate and I wasn't prepared to take that risk. So I asked Group B Strep support to contact a lab who would be able to offer it privately with a more accurate result and you now see the result.

I have spoken to mums that have lost babies due to this infection and, personally would have it done. As MMJ said, it is dangerous when it presents itself in labour - my dd1 had it and was very ill.

If it is positive, they will offer you I/V antibiotics. If you are unsure of anything, give Group B Strep Support a call, their helpline is wonderful and they will put your pg mind at rest.

I tested privately, Mulhaven was the lab, 33 quid a bargain price 4 the test, in my mind. It was negative, but would have only had antiBs if I met at least 1 other risk factor (what janitor said).

Just noticed there is another thread about this down the page - brain has gone totally fuzzy and only had one day of mat leave!

MrsR - do you have the no of the helpline to hand or is it on the website?
