Thick nuchal fold

I had my 12 week scan today. I’m actually 13 weeks. Baby was measuring perfectly and my dates were bang on but then the sonographer told me that the Nuchal fold was worryingly thick; 6.4mm.
I’ve been referred to a fetal medicine consultant tomorrow for further scans and my bloods today have been fast tracked. I’m absolutely terrified and devastated. Does anyone have any experience of this that they can share?

So sorry to hear things are so tough, didn’t want to read and run as have had recent experience of this.
Currently 35 weeks but at our 12/13 week scan our baby‘s nuchal translucency was 6.3mm. I felt exactly the same as you’re describing and cried for days. We saw the fetal medicine team and have since had an amniocentesis and regular scans, every 2-3 weeks at one point. We also had a specialist scan of the baby’s heart. Thankfully everything has come back ok, so whilst not quite there yet we’ve been reassured that it’s hopefully one of things and not associated with any other problems.
Really hope your appointment tomorrow is helpful. We’ve felt really well supported by our fetal medicine team.

Hi! Thank you so much for replying, this has made me feel so much better. I'm so glad your pregnancy has gone well despite this. I'm praying I have a similar outcome, c

You'll find a lot more company on the Mumsnet antinatal testing board. I had a different 12 week testing issue so spent a bunch of time there, and saw many, many posts like yours. Downs risk definitely seemed to have more falso alarms than a bunch of other issues that can flag up at the scan. If you like to have a lot of info and statistics prior to making testing decisions, Emily Oster's book, Expecting Better, has a lot of info on amnio, CVS and NIPT that got me comfortable with doing CVS. I wish you all the best, it is a worrying time.
