Conceived in Maldives, worried about Zika.

Hi all

please don’t judge me. This is terribly hard to even write. Here is the background.

I have a 4 year old perfectly healthy daughter already. I since had 3 back to back miscarriages (classed as chemical pregnancies). My husband and I decided we were not going to try again.

We went to the Maldives on honeymoon 4 weeks ago and then on to Dubai. whilst I was there I was bitten terribly. I don’t just mean once, I had over 100 bites which were extremely red and swollen. When I got back I then developed egg shaped bumps on my forehead (another area I was bitten) and was treated in an and e for cellulitis with antibiotics. That was two weeks ago. The bumps are still on my head a little but have definitely gone down.

fast forward two weeks and I find myself lay here now, on my bed, extremely concerned because I’ve found out that.. I’m pregnant! Big shock to us! Must have conceived in the Maldives on a drunken night!

I have been to my local hospital (I am in the UK) and the doctors had not dealt with this before.. I guess this is because most women follow the advice and don’t get pregnant after a Zika risk area!! But this wasn’t planned, however very much wanted after the previous 3 miscarriages. The doctors after much investigation by ringing labs in London etc, agreed to send my bloods off for Zika testing, but told me this wasn’t 100% accurate.

I now find myself in the most horrendous predicament. Googling every 5 minutes about Zika virus and the consequences to my unborn child. Wondering if I need to make the most terrible decision imaginable due to this risk. I don’t want to get to 20 week scan to find out my baby’s head isn’t growing. I also have read that the baby can be born totally fine but then not develop properly in first 3 years of life and have a high risk of infantile death?

Im sorry if any of you think I’m being ridiculous but I am just completely out of my mind with worry.

is there anyone out there who has been in my position and can offer any advice? I wouldn’t be as concerned if I was not bitten as badly as I was. I am not exaggerating when I say over 100 bites. I have images which I won’t post on here of me in a bikini, but I was completely covered head to toe.

any advice is much appreciated. Please be kind xx
