Hi

Have any of you had a GTT test... how long are we supposed to fast for beforehand. I had a sweet at 11pm and my appointment is at 9am. Worried it'll affect things.

Thanks

What did your trust advise?
mine was 12 hours fasting - appointment was 9am so I had to fast from 9pm night before

12 hours, when I went in for mine the midwife asked specifically how long have you fasted. One woman answered less than 12 hours and had to eat till it had been 12, in her case just an extra hour. One sweet might not make a difference but best to be honest and get an accurate result as its an important test.

My trust it’s fast from midnight, but can drink water.

Thanks all! I just had the first blood test and drank the glucose solution! They said come back in 2 hours and that we can go home if needed. So I'm home for a quick nap lol

@flowerchop that’s mar how different they all are! I wasn’t allowed to go out if the waiting area apart to go to the toilet. I passed out after the glucose drink after my first go at the test and as I had to be moved to be checked over in a&e I wasn’t allowed to to the second test. I was in a wheelchair so didn’t even walk but they said I had moved about too much! I nearly passed out again during the second attempt a week later but was put in the room next door on a reclining chair so was ok.

I'm amazed you're allowed to go home. I felt sooooo ill

essynemo · 05/06/2023 14:00

I wasn’t allowed home either, i was sent into the waiting room and told not to move around too much.. I felt ok all the way through but the second i left the hospital felt really funny 😬
