Chest pain - 37 weeks pregnant

I’m not sure when it started but maybe an hour ago I started getting chest pain. I’m not sure what’s causing it I’m 37 weeks pregnant & have felt irritable all day but my partner has annoyed me & been arguing all day via text. Had some mild stomach pain upon walking earlier & got more irritable as the day went on then started getting chest pain. Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve no other symptoms just like sharp shooting pains every few second on the left side of my chest I’d say above my left breast to be precise.

Go and get checked 😊 sounds potentially like heart burn but if you’re worried just go to triage and they’ll check you over

Moonchild5 · 04/06/2023 23:16

I’ve had heartburn for months & was prescribed omeprazole defo not heartburn feels completely different heartburn feels like burning in the centre of my chest & I’m on my own with my son so can’t go anywhere. It feels like the pain would get when I’m stressed or anxious but I always worry it’s more serious I haven’t had it in a while & I’m pregnant so more concerned & I’m not as fit & healthy as I was 10 years ago in my first pregnancy

Can you phone the maternity ward? I think you should get checked out just to be sure. But speak to a mw. Mine were always very helpful

You need to see a doctor, chest pain is potentially serious - do not delay seeking help. The hospital staff will understand you bringing your son in in an emergency if you have no childcare.

It's probably not this, but it needs ruling out (urgently).

Pregnancy increases your chances of developing a blood clot which can travel to your lungs and become a Pulmonary Embolism. These are incredibly dangerous and need urgent treatment. Please go to A&E, they WILL take you seriously.

Take this from someone who very nearly died from one (not pregnancy related, mine was post-surgical).

Obviously best to get checked out but it could be an anxiety attack if you've been arguing with your OH. I've had an ambulance sent out to me in the past due to this as the symptoms were like that of a heart attack! Hope you get sorted and feel better soon x

I’ve been on blood thinners for nearly 3 months now surely it wouldn’t be that? My dad had a blood clot & developed health anxiety from it & have obsessed & studied which symptoms to look out for. I wasn’t breathless & no pain upon breathing in etc I have woke up & has subsided. It’s pain I feel when I’m stressed/anxious or ate too many sweet things & was both yesterday so wondering if it was that

If you have chest pain and pregnant you need to go to A&E and be seen by medics.

OnNaturesCourse · 05/06/2023 10:51

You need to get checked out.

Could be as simple as trapped wind. I get it occasionally in my chest and it's really sore and sharp. But you need to get it checked out.

Not saying I'm correct but contact your midwife as this type of pain could be a sign of pre eclampsia
I didn't even have protein in urine when it showed, just felt off

Moonchild5 · 05/06/2023 14:17

I’ve had high protein & leukocytes in my urine at every midwife appointment for a while now. The midwife asks every time if I’ve had any signs of infection but had none & every time my sample has been sent off it’s been fine but don’t know if they checked for pre eclampsia at the same time as infection I don’t know what tests they run or how they test for it.

Yes protein and leukocytes( white cells) are always present if there's an infection I'd say midwife should send your urine sample to the lab to check for bacteria just in case but as you're feeling unwell at 37 weeks I would let her know
It could be there's less room and the baby is squashing your stomach a little
I drank gaviscon almost by the bottle!
The last few weeks are the hardest aren't they!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 05/06/2023 14:56

Forgot to say Mention possible pre eclampsia

Moonchild5 · 05/06/2023 16:49

Yeah it’s been sent off every time but there’s no infection I’ve had constant high protein in my urine. I went & got checked at the doctors he wasn’t concerned & I mentioned pre eclampsia but said the pain I’ve been having isn’t associated with pre eclampsia & that it would be a different chest pain

I'm glad you went to GP It's good news that it's not pre eclampsia but also frustrating because you don't know what the problem is
I hope you start to feel better as you wait to meet your baby
