Is it Twins?

Hey all!

Lets start this by saying that I am a twin myself :)

I'm 4 weeks and 3 days pregnant with my first at 30 years young.

I got my first BFP 4 days ago a day before my AF was due and it was a very clear and distinct line and a digital reading clearly saying BFP! :D

I'm now on day 3 of no AF and lots of progressively darkening thick lines on my BFPs and my symptoms are giving me hell! I've felt nauseous for over a week, my breasts are sore and agony to touch, I'm sleeping for 14 hours of the day and I can't tolerate the smell of cooking at all!

I know the only way to know for sure is at my first antenatal scan but I was wondering if anyone could share similar experiences? Is this twins? :O

I'm 9 weeks! So we're around the same EDD? Mines technically 8th of Feb but with identicals likely delivery will be Christmas time or early January 😅

@gemmylou92 ill be 7+5 tomorrow doing off my LMP but think I ovulated later so half expecting them to put my dates back abit. Hopefully you have a smooth pregnancy many people carry them until nearly full term now! We were 5 weeks early when we weee born because my mam had preclempsia x

gemmylou92 · 05/07/2023 06:57

@BEO got everything crossed for you! 🤞

I really was only preparing myself for one too, but I just had this strong gut feeling I couldn't shake!

At 7+5 theyll definitely be able to see if its twins!

@gemmylou92 i was always petrified of twins but now trying to prepare myself so it’s not a shock if they tell me it is! I don’t think it is though however my symptoms have been very very mild, almost wouldn’t think I was pregnant if it wasn’t for positive tests! Even tested again the other day for peace of mind 🙈

happygolucky42 · 05/07/2023 07:27

my last pregnancy was twins. three normal pregnancies before that. just felt like I was on a boat all the time. had a big implantation bleed.

gemmylou92 · 05/07/2023 07:40

@BEO oh I get the fear! It's like because you're a twin yourself you KNOW the odds are just higher for you, so it almost never shocks you aha

@happygolucky42 oh wow grats! Are they non or identical? 🤭

Hey! I’m expecting identical boys - 27 weeks just now, if you ever wanna chat about it! Hope you’re keeping well :)

TWINMAMATOBE2023 · 05/07/2023 11:45

Hi all,
I had a miscarriage previously and spotting so they did an early scan. Last week we found out I am 6 and half weeks pregnant with twins. No twins in our family so expecting they will be identical. I wasn’t shocked tbh as I had dreamt they were twins. I was so relieved to see a heartbeat let alone two! Due mid February!

adayatatime23 · 05/07/2023 11:53

@TWINMAMATOBE2023 you can instantly tell even from early scan photos, non identicals have very separate sacs and identicals in the same one!

TWINMAMATOBE2023 · 05/07/2023 11:57

I wasn’t shown the screen and not given print outs, they said they would be able to tell us at 12 week scan

Not always. Identical can be in separate sacks if split very early but if in the same sack always identical. If in seperate sacks you would only be able to tell with genetic testing (unless obv boy/girl).

You should be able to see twins easily at 7 weeks.

@TWINMAMATOBE2023 do you remember them saying anything about didi or monomono or monodi etc?

PS OP identical is not genetic, they're a total fluke (though some argue you may be more inclined but there isn't enough scientific evidence of it!).

gemmylou92 · 05/07/2023 12:54

Hey all!

It feels like whenever I hit my next week milestone I get brown dc and cramps xD also people have spotted my hair has gone from brown to dark blonde!

So I know mine are identical because they're in the same gestational sac, and we know they're mono/di because they're in separate amniotic sacs :) they couldn't spot twins at 5 weeks because there was only one sac!

The sonographer described it as them being in the same house but different rooms, whereas nons would be in different houses

How amazing! And what are the odds 😱

I’ve wondered whether my pregnancy is a twin one for about a week now because my symptoms are so much stronger than my first pregnancy. There are 4 sets of twins in my close family (my dad is a non identical twin, mum has twin brother and sister, my Nan is a twin and my cousin has non identical twins) but there are none on my husbands side.

I don’t really know what I’m hoping to see at the early scan at the end of the month. On the one hand it would be amazing to have guessed right, but we always said we would only have two children so this could put a bit of a spanner in the works (of course I would absolutely love them both, we just might need to move to a bigger place 😂)

adayatatime23 · 05/07/2023 14:16

@Bells3032 i was speaking in general terms but of course, 30% of ‘non identical’ same gender twins are identical, we got told at our antenatal class!

For non identical your husband's side makes zero difference and depends on how many eggs you release a month. If there's lots in your family though direct blood lines rather than say where the aunt is married into the family then you have a high chance of it. Fathers can also pass down that increased chance to their daughters but can't affect their partners chances of twins.
.however do remember all pregnancies are different and symptoms are rarely a good indicator

glasspaw · 05/07/2023 14:31

@Bells3032 that is really interesting about husbands side making no difference. Yes, all direct blood relations to me haha. We will have to wait and see!

Bells3032 · 05/07/2023 14:32

@glasspaw oooh then very high chance (similar to me) so good luck and hope you get whichever way you want. Keep us updated!!

I’ll be so happy either way :) I can’t wait to see my little boy as a big brother. I’ll keep you posted - private scan is scheduled right at the end of this month.

gemmylou92 · 05/07/2023 16:58

Eeee future mums and potential twin mummas do keep me updated!

@glasspaw I had it very similar, I just knew somehow 😅 how far along will you be at your scan tomorrow?

Oh I wish it was tomorrow. I’m only in week 6 and have a private scan booked at 10 weeks. Such a long wait!!

gemmylou92 · 06/07/2023 08:41

@glasspaw oh it feels like forever doesnt it! I remember when I had to wait between 5 weeks to 7 and it felt like years 😅

Confirmation scans should be a thing i feel, just to put us at ease

Hi all
im a mum of one and have just found out I’m expecting twins! We can’t afford to buy a new car that gets three car seats across the back - is there anyone else who had three under three and how did you manage this? What car seat do you recommend? We don’t have a second car sadly either!
Any advice much appreciated!!!!!🙏
