Preeclampsia at 19 weeks

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 05:15

In hospital at the moment with early onset preeclampsia. I may have to terminate unless they get my blood pressure down. Has anyone else had preeclampsia this early? I had my son at 34 weeks due to preeclampsia but can't believe it's come this early. They say it doesn't usually happen before 20 weeks.

@blahblahblah1654 hi there, I didn't want to read and run. I only had it later on like yourself so I don't have any advice, but wanted to let you know I'm sending so many good vibes your way and thinking about you 😊

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 06:46

Thanks @firstbabyworries! Hoping for the best but preparing for what could happen.

I had it in both pregnancies and it is early but there are all sorts of medication they can give you and full bed rest so don't panic yet .

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 11:50

My blood pressure is stabilising but platelets are still low. They are doing bloods every 6 hours. There's still a good chance I may have to terminate but it's just watch and wait for the next 24-48 hours.

Jesus.

That's awful, I'm so sorry for you.

Keep well and fingers crossed for you.

MuchTooTired · 03/06/2023 11:55

I only had it later on, so can’t help. I’ll be keeping everything crossed for you and thinking of you and if you are comfortable with it, praying for you and your baby.

laptop3000 · 03/06/2023 11:57

I had it from 28 weeks with my second pregnancy and not at all with my first.

Sending you all the good vibes and got everything crossed you get a positive outcome x

Gabbies · 03/06/2023 11:58

I didn’t have high blood pressure but my platelets were low super low throughout the whole of my pregnancy. I had to have weekly blood tests to check on the levels.

Main reason im posting is I have had to have a TFMR to save my life (different medical issue) and wanted to say it’s like being between a rock and hard place. If they haven’t suggested it yet ring ARC https://www.arc-uk.org/

They deal with TFMR around the mothers health too. You can just ring the helpline and just cry down the phone (I did this quite alot)

You poor thing. I had it from 26 weeks and had ds at 32 weeks. I didn't know it came on so early and second pregnancy too. Keeping everything crossed for you and seeing you lots of positive thoughts 💐

IncessantNameChanger · 03/06/2023 12:07

No advice as I had it at 32 weeks. Just do everything they suggest to keep your BP down and hope. Fingers crossed for you

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 12:08

Thanks everyone. Hate the unknowns but I know it's not looking good. They've just done another set of bloods so waiting for the results. My bp has gone down a bit but I'm on so much medication. Feel so bruised and battered with all the needles, blood pressure checks and cannulas. I have a 3 year old at home so it's hard being away from him. I've been here since Thursday now.

I also didn't know you could get it this early. The consultant was surprised too! Rare but possible.

OP posts:
blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 12:12

From what I read it was more likely to come on later in any subsequent pregnancies and less severe. I guess there are always exceptions to the rule though.

So sorry to hear you’re going through this! If you don’t mind sharing, what has your bp been? I had my 12 week scan and saw the consultant earlier this week and was started on a low dose of meds to try and get it under control early but have been told it’s likely to develop into pre eclampsia

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 12:19

@FirstMondayInMay it was 190/110 at the highest even with meds! Before I went to a&e it was 180/92. I have enough medication to tranquilise an elephant so they haven't loads of room to increase it. It's gone down luckily. It if stops working I'll have to have them given intravenously and to end the pregnancy.

Hi OP
Sending you lots of virtual support 🌸
Had PE too - was in hospital for a month. Similar BP readings to yourself. It took some time to get the combination of meds and timings right as some are slow release and others extended release. I was on Labetalol and Nifedipine.
Thinking of you

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 16:17

Thanks @Moonchild79 the same here, they're just making sure my blood pressure stabilises and I'm on the right meds. It's gone down and my bloods have improved but i was so close to needing a termination yesterday or could go either way. How many weeks were you when you were first diagnosed?

OP posts:
Moonchild79 · 03/06/2023 16:43

It’s sounding more promising so I’ve got everything crossed for you and your family.
Diagnosed/ admitted around 31w so a bit later than yourself.
You may want to explore if they can switch to manual BP readings. The medical team at Queen Charlotte’s found it more reliable than the automatic monitors. This helped with managing my meds etc and seemed to de-escalate the situation. Stay hydrated too as they say it helps slightly.
Keep us posted, rest when you can. I know how exhausting it is.
Happy to be with you during this part of your journey.

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 16:49

@Moonchild79 thanks! They are using the manual cuff at the moment as readings are a bit better on it. Currently on fluid restriction of 85ml and hour so can't drink anymore liquid at the moment. Frustrating as it's very warm!

IncessantNameChanger · 03/06/2023 17:19

There was a tablet they gave me as a one off to drop my BP drastically but maybe that was after I'd given birth? Made me feel like death at the time. I think it took a good 24 hours for the labetalol to start working.

Lovebeingamummy2 · 03/06/2023 17:24

Op sending all the love in the world I hope all turns out ok for you 🤞🤞🤞 xx

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 17:38

Thanks @Lovebeingamummy2!

@IncessantNameChanger I'm on labetalol and nifedipine. Nifedipine is giving me hellish headaches but it seems to be the most effective. My swelling has gone dow fortunately. Not out of the woods yet but things are better which is a positive.

Hi mine started at 20 weeks and they kept my babies in until 31 weeks by different medication until suddenly one day it went really really high and I had an emergency c section. Before that I was in hospital for a weekend at first while they got it under control, then admitted at 28 weeks. Had steroid injections to improve babies lungs as they were going to come early. Some drs wanted me to deliver at 29 weeks but my consultant fortunately had other ideas. I hope your blood pressure improves. 💐💐

blahblahblah1654 · 03/06/2023 19:06

Unfortunately my bp has shot up again to 170/100 even with all the medication. Think I'll be given more meds but it's not looking good.
