Hey, I’m super worried and I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with such thing or know of anything - the ultrasound I had today was going great. Everything measured fine etc. but the one thing they found was this extra bit near the nose. She measured the nose and it’s measuring normal (so it’s not a super long nose) and it’s nothing to do with fingers or the cord. Has anyone got any idea what this could be? I’m really worried and upset

Was this an NHS scan or private? Di they suggest there was something abnormal?
How far gone are you?

PumpkinSoup21 · 03/06/2023 21:07

Have they booked a follow up for you with fetal medicine or anyone like that?

HaPPy8 · 03/06/2023 21:12

is this at 12 or 20 weeks OP? It could potentially be to do with the baby’s palate (cleft palate) although obviously difficult to say from one picture. I hope all is ok.

this was my 12 week scan with the nhs - I did ask about the cleft palate and they said unlikely due to the position of it. They haven’t used the word abnormal but they have suggested I go to a more professional in a bigger hospital near me to get an idea of what it is. I’m just worried sick 😟 I’m of course thinking the worst- could it be a cancerous tumour or something similar? All sorts are going through my mind

You poor thing. That must be so worrying. When is your next appointment?
I think this is one of those situations where as much as you want answers it’s best to step away from google as much a possible and just focus on being compassionate with yourself until your next appointment.

Even if you can find some possible explanations here or elsewhere online you won’t be able to know what is going on in your case and so it will only cause extra worry. There are all kinds of possibilities and I’m sure many, if not most, of them are things that can be addressed.

Do you have anyone you can talk to about your worries whilst you wait for your next appointment? Could you call your midwife tomorrow?

Likethestarsabove547 · 04/06/2023 12:59

Did they suggest you go to a bigger hospital or refer you there?
You need a referral and follow up scan.
It could literally be anything, it looks like an additional bit of skin, and if thats the case then it could just be a simple case of removing it when baby is born. Could be a birthmark, could literally be anything non sinister.
I wouldn't reccomend private scans unless it's NHS or somewhere official because I think you'll get a wishy washy answer, you need fetal medicine as someone else said.
