Heavy bleeding at 4 weeks

Hello 👋

I'm just looking for some advice/shared experiences...

2 weeks ago I experienced heavy bleeding around the time when my period would usually be due. At first I assumed this was my normal period, however it got extremely heavy to the point it soaked a pad in 30mins and I felt myself pass a clot when I sat down on the toilet. I knew at this point that something was different so I took a pregnancy test which was positive, so at that point I assumed I had miscarried.

I saw my GP a couple of days later who did not examine me, but based on what I said he agreed it was likely I had miscarried in the very early stages of pregnancy.

I've spent the past 2 weeks processing this and have not experienced any further bleeding or cramps.

The confusing thing is that I am still experiencing extremely strong pregnancy symptoms (I was sick this morning & have really sore boobs). Also pregnancy tests are showing a consistent very dark line.

I rang my EPU this morning & they have asked me to go in for a scan in 2 days to determine whether a baby is present.

I completely understand that hormone levels and symptoms can hang around for some time after a MC, however the strength of the positive test combined with my symptoms are making me wonder whether the bleed could have been a haematoma.

Hopefully I will know for certain on Saturday, but in the meantime I was just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar, and if so how did your pregnancies progress.

Sorry for the long post, thanks for reading 😊❤

Hi
I'm sorry to hear this. However, I would wait to see what scan shows..

What makes you think this?

That happened to me and I didn't know I was pregnant, I actually got 2 huge gushes down the toilet aswell so I didn't know I was pregnant till 11 weeks gone . You may still be pregnant. I went to the doctor about it and they didn't know why it happened so it's still a mystery. I'm due my baby in 8 weeks time. Hope you are okay x

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me - it's reassuring to know this can happen & still lead to a healthy pregnancy. Fingers crossed it's a similar journey for me but I'm also prepared for the worst. Congratulations and good luck for the rest of your pregnancy ❤ x

I had the same in 2021. Heavy bleeding the same time as period was due and then light brown bleeding occasionally when wiping. It ended up as a ectopic.
I also had a heavy bleed around 5/6 weeks with my son and he was fine, no cause was ever found.

It really can go either way but any shoulder pain or cramping and I'd go straight to hospital to get checked.

Good luck

Thank you for sharing. An ectopic pregnancy sounds like a possibility for me too, but it's great to hear you went on to have a healthy pregnancy 😊

I suppose just from reading other people's experiences of bleeding in early pregnancy, it seems to be quite common

I bled heavily for a whole week at the same time my period was due, then got a positive test. It was a hematoma (or however you spell it), currently 25 weeks pregnant.

Oh I see. Yes it is one of the main causes of bleeding in pregnancy. I believe

Just found your post and delighted you have a positive outcome! Wondering why your GP wouldn't of done blood tests at the start to confirm for you either way?! X

TMI picture/bleeding
i am currently 4 weeks 4 days, 2 days ago I had pinky discharge which subsided after a few hours and I had nothing over night and through the morning, yesterday afternoon when I wiped there was blood, which continued for the rest of the day, it got a little heavier but Not enough to fill a pad but was red when I wiped, phoned the EPU who just told me manage symptoms at home as it’s so early they couldn’t do anything and passed it off that it’s probably a miscarriage but to ring them in 3 weeks if I have a positive test still.
The bleeding has continued over night but not heavy, only blood when I wee or wipe. I’ve not had any clots or cramps (just the usual twinges I’ve had since finding out)
any positive stories out there, I've convinced myself it’s not going to be a positive ending 😕 TIA x
