Sweep success stories at 37 weeks?

Hi I'm having a sweep this Saturday the 3rd at 37 weeks as I'm high risk due to previous placental abruption. I'm being induced a week on Saturday but they are wanting me to naturally labour instead of being induced. Anybody had a sweep at this stage of pregnancy and it worked for them?! This is my 4th pregnancy and 3rd baby. Every pregnancy and birth has been so different for me I don't know what to expect! Tia

A sweep will only have a chance of success if the neck of the cervix is receptive (effaced / softened).

If everything is fully closed, it won't really be possible to have a sweep. Equally you will need to be favourable for induction.

Good luck! That's a terrifying event with your last labour so hopefully all will be well & if necessary, they'll move to section.

In terms of success, if the cervix is favourable, it can certainly help, IMO

@EarringsandLipstick thank you for your reply. I had a cervical exam today and the consultant said I was 1cm dilated which I think is pretty common for subsequent pregnancies. So hopefully it will work for me! It was terrifying I lost my little boy at 38 weeks gestation so as soon as this one can come safely I can breathe again. Its been an intense 9 months to say the least

Oh my goodness OP ❤️ I'm so sorry. What a tough time you've had.

That sounds really positive regarding the sweep, and I'm sure they will manage your care really well to ensure the safe arrival of your new baby.

Thank you it was the worst time of my life. I don't actually know how I recovered but my anxiety is through the roof with this little boy. I had a doppler scan today and his cord reading is high for the second time in a week so in again on Monday and if the reading is still high I think induction will happen sooner. Fingers crossed I get my happy ending this time
