Had a sweep and a few hours later walking is so so painful feels like someone’s smacked me between the legs with a bat! No period pains or anything just horrendous pain between my legs/upper thigh when walking. It doesn’t hurt when still. 40+1

I'm no expert but that sounds unusual. Can you phone your midwife?

Poppins2016 · 30/05/2023 22:09

I'm not a medical professional, but I'd say it's probably within the realms of normal from a common sense point of view (increased blood flow, increased pressure, someone's been messing around with your cervix)...

I definitely felt slightly 'bruised' (I wasn't actually) after one of my sweeps, however the midwife hadn't done anything different compared to other sweeps I've had in the past (I've only had two babies but went rather overdue with both so I've had a few!). I put it down to a combination of cervix effacing and pressure from babies head being so engaged.

Just to add... what I experienced wasn't horrendous, just a bruised/achey sensation. If you're at all concerned, I'd check it out with a midwife (I'd call the maternity line assuming you have one).

It’s possible the midwife did a cervical stretch along with the sweep.
