Cyclogest - TMI??

Clarita191 · 30/05/2023 21:05

Hi mummies. I am currently on cyclogest pessaries twice daily. Been on them since 4 weeks and currently 9+5... I am inserting them in my back passage but am still having horrendous thrush / vaginal itching. Dr has prescribed clotrimazole cream but it is doing nothing. Is there anything else I can ask my GP for?? I am so uncomfortable.

I guess you could try vaginal probiotics and oral women's probiotics. Femdophilos or ontobac for women and canesflor are well known brands. Certainly helped me with preventing thrush. I've just finished 16 weeks of progesterone suppositories rectally and luckily didn't get thrush. I didn't realise it could be a side effect.

hope you don’t mind me jumping on here! I’m in the same boat, thrush is so incredibly uncomfortable! Hope you got some relief.

@seven201 I’m 15weeks tomorrow and been told to stop Cyclogest at 16 weeks. Did you just stop all together or did you phase it out? My GP is no help!

seven201 · 10/07/2023 23:03

@KG416 I wasn't told to phase it out but I did add two days of just one suppository. Probably unnecessary!

I'm 16 weeks on Thurs and have basically had thrush / itching the entire duration of taking these. Spoke to consultant yesterday and she said to see if it settles now I'm coming off them as she doesn't want to throw an antibiotic into the mix too😭 My urine sample showed leukocytes too so I'm going to do another sample on Thurs with my GP as if an anti biotic would clear things up I'd be happy to take it. Have started to titrate down on the progesterone and only taking one at night... decided this of my own accord as again consultant said you can stop straight away but I do have niggle of fear doing that

@seven201 thank you for replying. I can’t get ahold of the specialist that prescribed them and when I asked my GP she said she didn’t know but someone would phone me back… which they didn’t. I have the exact amount to do me to the day before 16 weeks so I think I’ll start phasing down to 1 a day soon. Just scary to come off them now!

@Clarita191 sorry to hear you’re so uncomfortable. Fortunately i changed to rectal and got cream to help and it’s gone. But I understand the discomfort, it was keeping me up at nights and I couldn’t concentrate at work. Our due dates must be only days apart! How have you been feeling otherwise? I got a private scan yesterday so I’m feeling reassured again… for a little while anyway!

Clarita191 · 13/07/2023 07:32

I am due 28th Dec what about you?? I will more than likely deliver early though as my 2nd baby was stillborn at 37😪 I have been having lots of extra reassurance scans which have been so precious to me and have been referred to a specialist team at the hospital who give a little bit of extra support during pregnancy for mamas like me 🙃 This little baby is lying in such an awkward position so far though so I didn't get any pics at my 16 week scan but got to see her looking all comfy and wriggly 🤣 How have you been feeling?? I have reduced my cyclogest to 1 in the evening this week and haven't had any side effects so far 😁

@Clarita191 I’m so so sorry for your loss, can’t imagine how horrendous that must have been. How have you been coping?
My due date is 2nd Janurary! I have been a nervous wreck, the first trimester wasn’t enjoyable after multiple miscarriages previously. I’ve been feeling fine which is great, but also doesn’t help the anxiety. Some symptoms would have been reassuring that everything was still happening! Will you find out the gender? How old is your first child? I have a daughter who is 2 and 3/4 but haven’t broken the news to her yet, it’s so far away in her wee world!

Clarita191 · 14/07/2023 06:57

Coping OK but the anxiety is really after 2 miscarriages also. I have days I feel very positive and relaxed and days I feel so anxious and can't catch a grip on myself but I just take each day as it comes 🙂I had the Harmony test done and found out the gender with it - my 3rd LG. I have never found out previously and I just love knowing. We have told my daughter 4 and step daughters and they are all very excited but I know what you mean! It is a LONG wait for little people (and the mummies). I found a lovely book called There's a House in Mummy's Tummy which would be nice for when the time is right to tell your daughter 🤩 it's lovely meeting someone on the same part of the journey as me🥰

Ahhh that’s so exciting you’ve found out it’s a girl! Congratulations! Your partner will be well and truly outnumbered! 😆
yesterday was my first day only taking the Cyclogest at night. By doing one a day I now have for the next 5 days which will get me past 16 weeks. I just feel so nervous and frustrated that I haven’t managed to get any professional advice. Terrified it might all go wrong from coming off of them. Do you feel any different?
Thanks for the tip on the book, will definitely have a look!

BudgetBuster · 16/07/2023 10:58

Hey ladies, sorry to butt in! Congrats to you all, great to see your pregnancies progressing after losses. I am currently 6wks and have had 3 mc previously. I'm on cyclogest now until 16 weeks also. I am just wondering if either of you had less symptoms with these pregnancies taking cyclogest?

KG416 · 16/07/2023 16:28

@BudgetBuster congratulations! hope you’re doing ok. I wouldn’t have said less symptoms as I barely had any with my pregnancies pre and post Cyclogest. Maybe not much help, sorry. I know lots of people who have said each pregnancy they’ve had have been completely different though so try not to worry (makes me such a hypocrite saying that!!).
do you have an early scan booked to focus on? That’s definitely helping me having the next bit of reassurance to count down to!

BudgetBuster · 17/07/2023 09:19

Yes, I have a reassurance scan tomorrow at 6w4d and then I'll probably book a private scan for week 9 maybe as my dating scan wouldn't be until 13 weeks.

KG416 · 17/07/2023 10:02

@BudgetBuster that’s good, not long to wait now. I got my early one at 7 weeks and when I said about my miscarriages they offered to book me in for another one at 10 weeks so may be worth asking them if you could get another one because of your history? I have everything crossed for you.
