Hi I’ve just read the side effects and now I’m so scared to take them I have health anxiety so it’s really scared me into taking them

@Jessican what have you read? have they been prescribed? asprin is a pretty low level medication, people in some countries take a baby asprin daily just as a precaution against heart attacks, treated like a vitamin, what is it you are afraid of?

If you've been recommended to take them then the benefits surely outweigh any risks?

OneMoreCookieMonster · 30/05/2023 15:13

If you've been prescribed them, your midwife, gp or consultant has weighed up the options and has decided you're better off on them than not.

I've taken them my entire second pregnancy and have not had a single adverse affect. In fact, I believe its the reason I was able to carry to term after a huge amount of pregnancy losses.

I take a 75mg every day, i started when I was TTC and have continued on, it isn't prescribed, i told my consultant and thought i was going to get scolded for taking something not prescribed, quite the opposite she said to me she would also take them if she was pregnant.

YukoandHiro · 30/05/2023 15:19

I had to take them through my second pregnancy due to risk of preeclampsia.

No side effects, and didn't have preeclampsia second time round. Was induced (easy process) at 39+1

Whathefisgoingon · 30/05/2023 15:30

What are the risks factors that mean you have you been recommended them?

The system automatically recommended it for me due to my sons birth weight being slightly smaller than normal at 6lbs3, however as this was literally the ONLY reason, I spoke to a consultant who actually said under my own circumstances it’s not necessary and he has arranged extra scans at 32 and 36 weeks instead.

Saying that, I’m still considering taking them, but like you, worried about the risks.

38andtrying · 30/05/2023 15:39

@Whathefisgoingon what are the risks?

Jessican · 30/05/2023 15:44

@38andtrying @Whathefisgoingon I had pre eclampsia in first pregnancy and baby was low birth weight that’s why I’ve being prescribed them I’ve being told 150mg daily, I’ve seen all the bad ones like bleeding and stuff like that I think it’s the ones I’ve read that aren’t common that’s scared me like the worse ones but obviously with having health anxiety it’s really made me scared

The risks from pre-eclampsia and a growth restricted baby are much higher than the risk of side effects from aspirin.

Whathefisgoingon · 30/05/2023 15:46

@Jessican i have health anxiety too, so I understand.

Personally I feel like the risks of preeclampsia are higher than of aspirin, so personally I would take it it in that scenario.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 30/05/2023 15:55

I was on 75 mg until 13 wks and then 150 mg until 36 wks. Baby was still a tiny baby for dates but otherwise healthy

Whathefisgoingon · 30/05/2023 15:56

@OneMoreCookieMonster what was their birth weight?
