PAPP-A low

My 12 wk scan threw up a low Papp-a reading, now I'm super anxious. This is my second via IVF. My reading is 0.32 is that ever so low? I know 0.4 is the benchmark, Dr Google isn't helping me! I'm really scared now x

Hi@Crazybrowncow I’m 40 weeks today with my second baby and also had a low PAPP-A reading of 0.32. I was really worried about it too. From what I could see online at the time 0.32 wasn’t particularly low, it was at the upper end of what is considered ‘low’. When I asked around, lots of Mums told me they’d had low PAPP-A too and everything turned out fine. I got two growth scans later in my pregnancy to check baby was growing ok and its actually tracking on the 97th centile! It’s hard not to worry but do speak to your midwife for reassurance. I felt happier when I got to 20 weeks and everything was fine at that scan.

The Mumsnet antinatal test board has a lot more info/experience with low Papp-A. I lost a baby but had less than .1, so Papp-A can definitely be much, much lower than what you have.

Hi OP. Congrats on your pregnancy! I had a reading of 0.1 with my second child (didn't have the screening with the first). I was just offered 2 weekly growth scans after 28 weeks. At 36 weeks and 5 days he had dropped beneath the 10th centile line so I was induced. He was 5 pounds 12 ounces so not as small as they thought at all! TBH I think he could have stayed in longer!

Currently pregnant with DC3 and again had low reading this time 0.2. Baby was on 50th centile then dropped to 10 but is now apparently on the 30th! I have one more scan next week and if its ok I won't be having anymore. From what I have researched the risk of problems isn't greatly increased and most with low PAPP-A are fine, they will be keeping a close eye on you in the third trimester.

I had low Papp a and baby was born at 40+6 7lb 13. There is a fab Facebook support group that has loads of positive experiences, support and advice.

I think I was 0.29. Like you found out at 12 weeks, led to being flagged as high risk for downs syndrome so went onto have NIPT which came back low risk.

So far the low pap-a has meant I'm taking 150mg aspirin a day and I'm having additional growth scans at 30 and 36 weeks. I too was really worried at start but I'm now 30 weeks and so far all has been well with baby measuring right on track. Easier said than done but try not to worry, I think it's really just a precautionary approach and having a little extra monitoring in third trimester has actually been kind of reassuring.
