Hey, has anyone had a c-section under GA? Just wondering whether a member of theatre staff can take a photo of baby for you as they’re born? Obviously partners aren’t allowed in, just interested to know?

the thought of missing out on my babies birth etc breaks me & would like the photos that you’d get if a spinal. Thank you

Yes. Absolutely we can, and do get photos for you. I'm assuming this is an elective C-section that needs to be done under GA? Obviously it is dependent on everything going well. But so long as it is, someone will be able to take some photos for you.

GrowBabyGrow · 24/05/2023 22:22

I think it depends on the circumstances. My emergency c section was almost under general due to how much of an emergency it was. My husband wasn’t allowed to take his phone into theatre.

GrowBabyGrow · 24/05/2023 22:23

Forgot to add to clarify - it wasn’t under general in the end but in the rush there wasn’t time to ask about photos and then when my husband was allowed into theatre he wasn’t allowed his phone in

Thank you both for replying 🙂 @Dyra its an elective yes, it’s a bit on the fence whether it’s a general or a spinal. Just wanted to know incase it is a general so I can mentally prepare myself. The thought of missing them first few precious moments isn’t a nice feeling. Thank you x

Is there a reason for the GA? I've had two sections, both spinal, one elective one emergency. They're fine, calm and controlled, no stress or drama if it's the fear? You can't feel anything either.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 25/05/2023 07:36

I’ve had 3 c-sections under GA and my DH was allowed in for two of them. Check with your doc. I didn’t even think about getting mine to take pics, damn it! But he did get to be there and do cuddles almost straight away.

QueefQueen80s · 25/05/2023 10:00

I had my 2 under GA, didn't get pics but I'll say it was amazing just going to sleep and waking up to a baby!

J21x · 25/05/2023 13:07

@FloofCloud during pregnancy I got diagnosed with a condition which needs urgent surgery when baby is born (non pregnancy related) so their unsure whether spinal or GA due to this.. obviously I’d like a spinal but if I need a GA I just need to get my head around missing them first few moments

@QueefQueen80s thank you! Did you ask for pics and they didn’t take them? Or just something that you never really thought about? It’s my first baby so I’m gutted at the thought i could potentially miss them first few moments

@ThatsRoughBuddy thank you! That’s great that your partner got to sit in on some of them!

Yes we would take photos as long as everything was going well. We’d also try if possible to have your DH nearby so he could do skin to skin/cuddles/feed if necessary.

I never thought to ask, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem.

Aahh sorry to hear that but good they're ahead of the issue. Good luck but I'm sure they'll do anything you'd ask (within reason) as long as it's safe to do so - good luck

I had my second baby under a GA. I didn't know in advance that I would need one and it all happened quite quickly so didn't get photos. But I wanted to let you know that even though I missed his first moments, I bonded with him the same as I did with his older brother once I did meet him. It's not an ideal situation but you will have many more moments with bub, so if it does happen, try to focus on those. I hope your surgery goes well xx

J21x · 25/05/2023 14:50

@Fourecks thank you, it’s good to know you still bonded well etc, I’ve read stories where people struggled due to GA so that’s reassuring if it did have to happen, thank you 😊 x

I agree with bonding, no issue at all. It didn't cause any issues actually, with anything. Only positives 😊
