Hi everyone. I’m a bit confused about the whole don't sleep on your back thing! I get that Im not supposed to sleep on my back, but I’m spending a lot of time awake laying down on my back propped up a little with pillows etc and wanted to know if that’s safe? Will ask the midwife at my next appointment but does anyone have any knowledge on this? Thank you.

How many weeks are you? In third trimester it’s best to avoid any time lying flat on your back as the weight of baby compresses the vena cava so impacts blood flow.

@GrowBabyGrow I’m only 12 weeks but thinking about this for later in pregnancy.

You’ll be absolutely fine for weeks. Congratulations btw!

To be honest once I got to third trimester I found it really uncomfortable being on my back for any longer than the midwife’s checks as I got dizzy. I had a body length pregnancy pillow (highly recommend) that I would use to prop me partly up in bed for reading and relaxing so the pressure wouldn’t be on where the vena cave is. and then in bed I’d use it to help me lie comfortably on my side for sleep.
