"Never mind"

"Do you know what you're having?"

"Yes, a boy" (already have DS1)

"Oh never mind, it might be wrong!"

Also

"You'll just have to try for number 3 to have another chance at a girl... Sod's law it's boys from now on".

Why are people so weird?!

It's their completely mad way of "trying to make you feel better" because they assume you want one of each. Smile, nod, tinkly laugh and ignore!!!

arlequin · 23/05/2023 22:51

People are just so odd. Like others who say "oh you don't have a bump at all... are you sure you're 6 months?" when I'm measuring above average at the midwife...
I just cannot imagine making any of these comments!

Someone said we'd have to try again minutes after finding out DC3 was another girl. We did go on to have another... girl. Was hoping for a healthy baby, didn't care about the sex.

Don't know what goes through peoples minds.

Jemandthehologramsunite · 24/05/2023 01:25

People are weird! If I had two I'd want the same sex, it's dumb that people assume not to mention incredibly rude!!

Izzie94x · 24/05/2023 09:38

Ugh we got this so much, DH already has a DS, and we’re now pregnant with another little boy. The comments were WILD😳 even after going through years of infertility and a round of IVF.

Tell em to fuck off, that’s what I started doing 😂 little boys are the best 💙✨

inappropriateraspberry · 24/05/2023 09:42

I always remember being told how clever I was for having one of each! Like I had some control over it 🤷‍♀️
I really don't understand the obsession with what sex a baby is.

Vallmo47 · 24/05/2023 09:47

I’d raise an eyebrow and say “Yes a healthy baby is such a bad thing. Are you feeling okay hun?”

PickledScrump · 24/05/2023 09:54

I have two girls already, didn’t get the comments with my second but then it was covid. Pregnant again now and I think it’s another girl (find out in two weeks), but already started having the “let’s hope this one’s a boy” and “if it’s a girl you’ll have to try again” comments.

Likethestarsabove547 · 24/05/2023 10:28

So I have one of each and people constantly say 'oh that's great you can stop now' the assumption pisses me off a lot.

I think people say things with good intentions but have no idea how rude they can be. And some times it's best to just keep your mouth shut.

arlequin · 24/05/2023 10:29

Out of interest, is it usually woman 50 plus? That's who I hear it from!

I'd never tell anyone, I prob won't find out but if we do, I wouldn't tell. Such a bizarre mindset in society that it matters.

DappledThings · 24/05/2023 10:32

I have one of each. A number of people (strangers) told me how "clever" I was for having achieved that. People are very weird.

Chanel05 · 24/05/2023 10:33

My (horrid) grandmother, when I told her I was having a boy for baby 2 said to me, "At least you got your girl first." This is from a woman who has 3 sons!

People always comment to me ah one of each, as if that means anything. There's no need to comment anything.

BigglyBee · 24/05/2023 10:34

When I was pregnant with my 4th child, someone who knew that my only daughter had been stillborn 6 months earlier asked me if I would keep going until I got a girl. I asked if she knew that you couldn't breed from them even if you had both, then I walked away from her.

Sometimes people say stupid things by accident, and some people are arses. I have four sons now and sometimes people are envious ("You'll always have someone to cut the peat/help with the sheep/do the harvest") and sometimes they say stupid stuff about it being a shame I didn't have a girl. How I answer depends on how I interpret their intentions.
