Possible Miscarriage

Yesterday I noticed some brown blood on the toilet roll when I wiped and it came and went throughout the day (wasn't there every time). This morning I had brown blood once again and it has just started to change to red blood when I wiped there. Only on wiping so it's not a lot. Has anyone had this and it DIDN'T result in miscarriage? I'm 7 weeks.
Or if it did result in miscarriage, what should I expect?
Called Early Pregnancy Unit yesterday and they just said to wait and see.

Can anyone offer advice?

I have been bleeding on and off since 6 weeks, sometimes bright red, sometimes brown. I'm now 7+5 so early days still but I went for a private scan who could see an area of blood next to the pregnancy. I believe it's called a subchorionic hematoma. Unfortunately the only way you will know the cause for the bleed or if it is a miscarriage is with a scan. Fingers crossed for you.

Hi, sorry you're experiencing this OP. I echo what Mellous has said. We went for a private scan at 7w6, the only reason being that I'm impatient. Baby was absolutely fine but they noticed a subchorionic hematoma beside the baby sac. The body can reabsorb this or get rid of it hence a bleed! I've yet to experience a bleed and everything is great at 9weeks. It could possibly be this? They will say if you start to feel cramps with bleeding then to call back! Hope all goes well with you xx

I had this at about seven weeks and it stopped after a few days and the baby was fine.
I hope it's the same for you, OP.

Thank you so much for your reassurances. The waiting is just so horrible, isn't it? I've never heard of that condition you've mentioned but will have a look. Thanks for your replies.

I’ve had it in two pregnancies, first one all was fine and DC is now 2. Second pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. It can go either way at this stage, but if it has now turned red then try EPU again to try and get seen as they should scan you at 7 weeks so at least you’ll know what’s going on either way. Hope all is well for you.

@overtheblow thanks. They said to phone back in 48 hours if I'm still bleeding so will call them in the morning. I hope I can get a scan so I know either way.

How are things this evening, OP?

Cakeandcardio · 23/05/2023 20:30

Much the same. Thanks for asking. It hasn't progressed to the bleeding being any worse. It's just spotting and not every time I go to the toilet. I don't seem to have cramps or anything. It's just a worry as it started off with mild brown spotting to red spotting and there's slightly more of it.
I've got tomorrow off work anyway and will phone the early pregnancy unit again and see what they say. I know if it is a miscarriage, there's obviously nothing they can really do. But I just wish I could know.

Hey. I had this at 7weeks and there was quite a lot of blood - I was certain I had miscarried. I booked for a private scan and it was a subcorionic bleed which settled after 4 weeks or so. A very worrying time - but my DS1 is 1 now and very healthy :-) hoping you get some positive news OP!

Cakeandcardio · 23/05/2023 21:00

Thank you for sharing your story. Strangely the spotting has now turned brown again!

I was told brown blood is a good sign when I was going through this - it means it's old blood. X

@Cakeandcardio how did things go for you OP? I'm in a similar situation and looking at so many threads on here. Hope everything turned out well for you 🙏

I just came back to update. Forgot I had actually written this. Unfortunately my pregnancy did end in a miscarriage (at home). Was very horrible and sad but the good news is I'm now 7 months pregnant and all seems to be going well. Good luck to anyone who is suffering a miscarriage.
