Is nail polish safe?

I've heard that nail polish is a no-no during pregnancy (and nursing for that matter) as the chemicals can be passed onto the placenta through the skin.
I am feeling rotten at the mo (1st trimester all-day sickness) and wanted a nice pedicure to cheer myself up.

Should I give it a miss?

oooh, I didn't stop using it and when the tried to get it off before taking me into theatre to deliver dd1 it make me look as if I had bruised feet as it smeared everywhere - nobody told me I couldn't wear it though

Have never heard of this tbh! I wear nail polish a lot and all through pregnancy and when I went into hospital to give birth I had lovely red toenails and fingernails!!!

Lol at Dizzy...that is what happened to me. I was so upset, the made such a bloody mess and it took me half a day to paint the farkin things as I could not reach my feet by that point!!

I don't think it can go through the skin, as it is not on your skin! I doubt it would go through the nails

I think there is some issue with breathing the fumes both of the polish and of the remover, both of which are fairly nasty

I personally think as a one off during pg it poses bugger all risk, but I wouldn't necessarily do it while you are feeling sick - for me anything like perfume or nail varnish fumes would make me nauseous and headachey
