Too early to announce to family?

So this is our 2nd baby. We announced around 6 weeks with our first and I found it too early. Everyone went on for ages and I wish we’d have a bit more privacy

this time round my mum does know (I’m only 5 weeks so very early) and we want to go for an early scan like last time around 9 weeks or so

DH said it’d be nice to tell the family then as the clinic do a rough health check (not the NHS one you get at 12 weeks but a little health check of the baby)

and I get it but part of me thought do we wait until our 12 week scan?

or am I being stupid wanting 3 weeks extra privacy aha!

I do regret how early I told people last time but obviously was very excited. I’m very excited now but don’t want to announce too early. I don’t know!!

Wait until your 12 week scan. Some will probably guess if you leave it until 16 weeks.

@KirstenBlest Well after I took the test I suggested 20 week scan but DH made the very valid point that we have a family wedding and christening to attend before that… so someone would guess by then!

We only told my mum before 12 weeks, everyone else was told after the 12 week scan

Parents before 12 week scan, in case of a problem and us needing child care, everyone else after.

We told immediate family at 10 weeks following a scan at 9 weeks (told them on Christmas day), extended family the week after but didn't tell anyone else until after the 12 week scan

I told my immediate family as soon as i found out and i told my friends and colleagues at 16 weeks.
Congratulations on your pregnancy yay! xx

I told family early as it was Mothers Day so I gave both our mums flowers with the cards written “to grandma”.

Second time around we were all together for our eldests 1st birthday so I thought I might as well break the news!

When you're ready to share is the right time.

Some people find beneficial to tell early, as they see it like if they miscarry, at least they'll have support etc. personally I'd wait until after 6/7 weeks when a heartbeat can be seen then announce to close immediate family only.

I told my mom almost as soon as I found out.
More of the family after my 7 weeks scan. More people after my 9 week scan...
Im now waiting for the 12 week scan to tell more people, but more because what if anything went wrong after the 9 week scan and I dont know about it?

But Im terrible with secrets, so I just want to tell people! (apart from work... I dont want to tell my employers. LOL)
