37 weeks baby shower - too late?

Hi everyone, I have found out that some friends and family are planning a surprise baby shower when I will be 37 weeks pregnant. I am very grateful that they are thinking of me however my first reaction was a feeling that it’s a bit too close to my due date. I’m not one for a fuss so wouldn’t bother about anything OTT. I’m 33 weeks at the moment. Apparently dates didn’t align for people so that’s why it’s scheduled for then. I’m sure I’ll also be bigger, tired and swollen by then so might not feel my most photogenic!

Interested to know if you had a baby shower when you had yours? Do you think this is ok or too late?

Maybe it’s the pregnancy hormones causing me to overthink it all 😂

Not sure if this is your first.

But I had my baby shower at just over 35 weeks. My daughter was then born 3 days later at 36 weeks😂

I had 2 babies at 37 + 5 and + 4. Other 38. You get warning of impending labour- all mine were fast but I still had over night with my first.,id have enjoyed the company at 37 weeks- just make sure you let them do all planning and organisational stuff etc you n baby just be celebrated

I held a baby shower for a friend at 38 weeks because Christmas made it too difficult to hold it earlier. It was a low-key do, mainly sitting down. I was a bit nervous that baby would come but it was fine and the friend was grateful that everyone could get together

Congratulations! 🥰 That was very close to your shower 😅 Yes it’s my first. I have heard that first baby can be late but then I also hear some come a bit early so will definitely be feeling like I’m on baby watch then!

I had mine at 33weeks exactly, baby came at 35weeks exactly. It was emcs due to preeclampsia rather than natural early labour. I shared mine with a friend who was 5 weeks behind me.

I had mine at 36 weeks, baby was born at 40+6 so plenty of time. I didn't have one the second time around but i was induced at 36+6 with 5 days notice, she was born at 37+2

I didn’t have a baby shower but if I’d had one at 37 weeks either time the baby would have been a guest.

Mine is booked for 37 weeks.... if baby comes early I will tell them to carry on without me lol

It’s so unlikely you will go into labour before 37 weeks! You will probably have the baby shower and then wait weeks and week.
Just do it, you’ll have a nice day.

Had mine at 38 weeks. Didn't require much effort form me bar being spoilt!

You know your pregnancy and how you are coping.

I celebrated getting to wk 39 by painting the nursery and then had nights out planned for just after 40 weeks which I was then had to cancel as he appeared on due date!

No swollen ankles and any discomfort right up until my waters broke

I've been in hospital both times at 37 weeks with pre-eclampsia that didn't rear it's ugly head appear until after 34 weeks. So it would be too late for me.

Hopefully that won't happen, and you'll have a wonderful day with your family and friends.

Pahpahpotato · 23/05/2023 12:20

My friends organised mine at 38 weeks and to be honest it didn’t really cross my mind that it was too soon to my due date! I wasn’t exactly charging around and doing star jumps! I have to say though, I was still working on the farm up until the day before I had DS, so I was feeling well on being heavily pregnant.
It’ll (most probably!) be fine, enjoy 😊

It it’s going to be low key, then it doesn’t really matter if you go into labour beforehand, they can just rearrange after. I didn’t have a shower, but if I did I would have definitely done it after the baby was born, they can all meet them and celebrate the baby actually being there.
