Hi all,

Looking for some advice. I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago. Due to previous misscarriage I booked an early private scan which I had yesterday.

Scan showed twins - 2 sacs but they were empty. Dated 6 week 0d and 6 weeks 1d... sacs measured 12mm.

They advised me to come back in 2 weeks and also contact EPU who have asked me to go in on Wednesday to do their own scan..... sonographer said it could be failed pregnancy or i may have dates wrong but if they measured those dates I'm unsure how..

Has anybody heard of this before and ended up seeing babies? I'm so worried I can barely think straight

Hi midwife sonographer here. At this stage it’s really not possible to predict which way this will go, only time will tell. The medical terminology we use is a ‘pregnancy of uncertain viability’. Often women come too early for reassurance and because the pregnancy is not far enough along we can’t give a definite answer either way. Sadly between 20-25% of pregnancies do end before 12 weeks but turning that statistic on its head it means that by far the most likely outcome is that this will continue and be a viable pregnancy. Best of luck, I hope all is well at your next scan 💐

@MojoJojo71 Thank you for your reply, appreciate it. The report said a single intrauterine pregnancy seen but inconclusive scan.

I have everything crossed. Thank you again!
