Hematoma at 9 week scan

Hi.
At mine 9 week scan it appeared there's a hematoma next to the GS. Hematoma is measuring 2.23cm/0.98cm. So I am assuming it's pretty large. GS is 3.81cm and embryo 1.88cm, with 176 HB.
Dr didn't seem too concerned, but I have read about it since and I'm freaking out. As I also have history of miscarriage.
Please can you share any similar experiences or knowledge you have on the topic?
Should I be bed resting?...
Thanks

Hi OP. I’ve had a hematoma twice. First pregnancy it was found on a scan about the same time as you, I was told I would either bleed it out or it would be absorbed back into my body (the latter is what happened). I was never told to rest or do anything differently!
Second time I bled it all out before I even knew I was pregnant! Could still see it next to the GS on scans for a few weeks but it kept getting smaller and smaller. Currently 23 weeks :)
I’ve always been reassured that it won’t cause any problems, which it hasn’t for me.

@LuckyMoonstone thanks. Glad everything was fine and wish you a healthy pregnancy. Hope my outcome will be as good as yours.

hi, I had one which caused quite a scary amount of bleeding and clots - genuinely thought it was a miscarriage. so if it does happen try not to instantly worry as it can look bad if you do bleed it out, but baby was totally fine.
Mine bled at 7 weeks and then I had very light spotting until about 13 weeks.. then it finally stopped.
I did find that I needed to really tone down my exercise and shorten walks as if I overdid it I would bleed heavier. but I was never told to go on bed rest.

also there is a SCH Facebook group with lots of people talking a out their experience

Thanks. Do you by any chance remember how large was the hematoma?

I had one 11cm early one and After that, another remained at 6cm, which got smaller at each follow up scan until it was no longer visible at 22 ish weeks.

Thanks. That’s comforting to know. Do you remember how far along where you in the pregnancy?

Similar to @catchthedog had a very heavy bleed, thought I was having a miscarriage, went for a scan, told it was a hematoma and there was some left. Bleed again about a week later and that was that. DD is now sleeping peacefully beside me after sneaking into bed last night 😁

7 weeks for first bleed then bleeding on and off until 13 weeks.
then it was still showing on scan until 22/22 weeks i think but eventually just went away.

I had a large one found out after some light bleeding at 8 weeks. NHS sonographers were not bothered but I decided to reduce activities and stayed in bed as much as I could, not going outside home and not standing up for long period of time. I then only had one more episode of bleeding about a week later, soaking half of pad, some brown stringy discharge later too. I booked a package of 3 private scans to monitor it. At one scan the private sonographer told me that there was no more sign of active bleeding, so I resumed some normal activities. The sch was still visible at 12w scan and even 20w, but the NHS sonographers were not bothered and even refused to tell me whether it looked like active bleeding or not, which was not helpful. I think once you get past 12w and there's no active bleeding any more you are safe. But it could be worth paying for some private scans as the sonographers may be willing to explain things a bit more clearer. Best of luck! Think if you've already heard strong heart beat at 7-8w, and try to be a bit careful with activities, odds are definitely in your favour.

Yep my massive haematoma (larger than the sack at 10 weeks) is starting primary school in a few months 😀

The first I knew of it was a huge red bleed in the middle of the night. Thought I was having a miscarriage although there was no pain. Went for a scan the next day and baby was absolutely fine, haematoma was there on the screen, a large black mass. It bled on and off for another few weeks. Horribly scary but turned out ok.

BabyHope1 · 25/05/2023 13:34

Hi. Had another scan today. Hematoma appears to have decreased and baby's growth appears ok as well. Heartbeat was 181, which appears to be on the higher side, but I'll try to chill...

I'll have my screening in two weeks. Hope it all goes well.

@BabyHope1 sounds like yours is just being absorbed then rather than bleeding out, good news :)
