Nifedipine for Preterm contractions & Bleeding

Hi Ladies,
I'm a paranoid 20 weeker seeking reassurance & experiences from mommas here.
I was rushed to hospital for heavy bleeding with clots+ contractions a week ago. I wasn't luckily dilated. Baby/Cervix/Placenta- everything was fine.

They gave me Progesterone shots, Tranexa (for bleeding), Nifedipine (for contractions) & was put on hsptl bed rest for 4 days. Advised to continue the same medications +bed rest until next visit.

No reason was ruled out for the bleed/contractions. Did anyone go through the same? Did u carry to term? Had the same meds? Will Nifedipine cause any issues to the baby?

Positive experiences are highly appreciated.Flowers

I didn’t go through any of what you said, but I was put on nifedipine at 31weeks for high bp, the first option labitalol didn’t help my bp so they tried this one. I took it twice a day. Then at 34weeks they increased it to three times a day. I had my baby at 35 weeks. I had him early due to preeclampsia that kept getting worse. My baby was fine. So I was on it for 4 weeks in total and it worked out fine, but I can’t say anything in terms of why you will be on it.

Thanks for your responseFlowers, glad that everything went fine for you. Nifedipine acts by relaxing uterine muscles, thus preventing preterm contractions.

Unfortunately, during my stay in the hospital my contractions gained intensity and couldn't be stopped by any drugs. Along with an elevated CRP level of 34.4 which indicates high infection rate.

I delivered my baby boy vaginally at 23+5 weeks but he didn't make it.

@UmmAtiyyah

I am really sorry to have read what happened. I hope you have lots of support around you at this difficult time.

In April, I gave birth to my gorgeous sleeping baby girl at 19 weeks. Worst thing in the world. I had bleeding, clotting and contraction type pain at the end.

If you ever need a chat, I am here. Sending you lots of love x
