Hey! Is it normal to have a 16 week scan for your first scan? I thought the first scan was at 12 weeks? (This is all through the NHS by the way).

11-14 weeks is normal. 16 weeks is definitely longer than normal. The trisomy blood tests can’t be done after 14 weeks. They can do a different test but it only tests for downs I think. When did you have your booking in appointment?

How many weeks are you now though?

They call it a 12 weeks scan but it can be any time from 11-14 weeks as a normal range

@Ellbellx that’s definitely very unusual then. I would try and contact them and ask why it’s 2 weeks after the latest it should be considering you’re not even 9 weeks yet.

I had my booking in appointment at 10 weeks and my scan was at 12+6 weeks by LMP but at the scan my date was changed which I expected as knew I ovulated a few days late.

I know they are really busy but 16 weeks seems a bit extreme considering it’s not like you’ve had a late booking in appointment

There are massive delays in some areas, but 16 weeks feels very late.

I had my first scan at 17 weeks, 14 years ago. This was because they lost my paperwork. Advantage was they could tell the babies' sexes. (It was twins but I was half expecting that by the size of me).

Season0fTheWitch · 16/05/2023 18:02

That is strange. Are you able to go to another area if it means you'll get seen sooner? They might be able to arrange that if your scan is late due to delays
