31 weeks and feeling dreadful

Hi everyone,

I'm 31 weeks pregnant with my first and just feeling dreadful. I'm constantly exhausted and have crippling upper back and rib pain which doctors assume is muscular.

I'm having physio and I'm on strong iron tablets for anaemia but I suppose my questions are;

  1. Is this normal?!
  2. Anything else I can do that has helped others.

The baby is being delivered at 39 weeks but the thought of another 8 weeks is sort of overwhelming!

I had awful awful rib pain about this time too. I couldn’t walk, sit, lie. I had to prop myself up in one position on the sofa and stay there! So yes, normal I think. What really helped was going to the osteopath. She opened up tight muscles around my ribs which helped the baby to shift slightly and the pain eased. I had no pain after about a week, which was amazing! Maybe consider an osteo to help?

Oh I feel your pain. I'm also 31 weeks pregnant with my first and absolutely ready for pregnancy to be over now! I get awful pain in my hips/pubic bone area when I lay down or try to move which is fun.

I’m totally with you. I’m almost 32 weeks with my second and I’m just counting down the days to baby’s arrival. We’re on the home straight.

Night times are the worst for me. I’m breathless, restless legs and terrible hip and back pain. Soft and flattish pillow under bump helps the hips and back a little for me along with a maternity pillow between my knees. Not the most comfortable but better than the alternative! The upper back pain, I’ve only found resting helps. It’s so uncomfortable!

Hope you get some relief soon x

Swimming really helped when I had bad rib pain. You don't actually have to swim just float about. It took the pressure off and the cool water was soothing.i also had acupuncture (nhs trial) and that also helped.

@DogAndWineLover Honestly nothing has helped and just seems to be getting worse if anything so really not sleeping well at all. I have another midwife appointment today so going to mention it to her and hopefully get some advice!
