Babies footprints at hospital

I just seen a cute tiktok about the things you get in hospital when you have a baby and printed footprint was on the video. Do UK hospitals do this? I think the video was American.

That doesn't happen in UK hospitals as far as I know. But you can buy the imprint kits online to do it yourself.

Not at our hospital either, but we took Ds to a local pottery place that did some really nice imprints of his hand and foot. You have to do it really quickly, they grow so fast!

You must be joking - midwifery services are currently struggling to provide the absolute basics of care for families at the moment, you're lucky to get pain relief and food, let alone having footprints done!!

You can get a really easy DIY inkless footprint kit, we bought ours of Not on the High Street but sure you can get them all sorts of places. Was really easy to do.

Maybe if you went private.
I'm sure NHS midwives are struggling to provide the basics right now!

They only do if your baby dies or you have a late loss so the parents have something of their child.

I’m not sure if all hospitals do it but mine did

My son was born at 34 weeks and spent 3 weeks in NICU. It was Mother's Day while he was still in hospital and that morning I arrived to a little bag of treats and a handmade card with his footprints inside! One of the nurses had done the same for every baby in the unit. It was a beautiful gesture and I could still get emotional thinking of it now!

It’s made me emotional thinking of it. That’s so nice 💛

I ordered it online and did mine when he was three weeks old. He came five weeks early at 35weeks so still very tiny. Well it’s an ink pad but there was a celophane later so no ink went on the baby.

footprints aren’t for fun, they are used as identification.

since the babies foot is already inked, the hospital will typically go ahead and make another copy for the parents. If I remember correctly at ours we had to bring the paper we wanted the prints done on if we wanted an unofficial copy to take home.

SycophantsUnite · 16/05/2023 07:08

@Ponderingwindow We don't do footprints for identification. So it is just for fun here - unless, desperately sadly, the baby hasn't/won't survive in which case it is memory making which clearly isn't 'fun' but is still not for an administrative purpose.

It's a nice thing to do to let the parents have a copy if they're doing it anyway!

I think I have something in my eye.

Only time I had it was with my stillborn daughter. They did footprints, handprints etc for us to take home.
Otherwise you have to do it yourself when you get home

User79853257976 · 13/09/2024 17:24

They don’t, but I bought unless foot/hand print kits from Amazon.
