How did your labour start 2nd time round?

Out of curiosity how did your labour start the second time round? I’ve heard it can be a lot more sudden than the first?

With my first I had tightening and pains that I could time, which would eventually die down after an hour or two, on and off for about 2 weeks before DS was born. (Born at 40+4)

this time (I’m 38+6) I’ve just had a show and was then sick… wondering if it’s a sign she’s on her way soon. However absolutely no tightenings etc!

Hi OP, with my second I was 40+5. Felt really sick the night before, woke early hours with little niggling pains, had really loose stools and within an hour I was having regular contractions. Knew it was time to head to hospital which was approx 30 min drive. By the time I got there I was fully dilated, so definitely quick for me in that sense. My baby was in a difficult position, so didn’t come out as quickly as I would have liked! Good luck, I hope all goes well! X

Pretty much the same as my first DC birth . But a bit quicker.
DC 1: I woke at about 4am with cramps, bounced on the ball downstairs. By about 8am it was definitely labour. Went to hospital around 1pm and baby arrived around 5.15

DC2 : I woke a few times with cramps in the night but fell back asleep. It was definitely labour by about 8am . Went to hospital around 2pm, baby arrived at 6:30.
So the 4 hours of night - time contractions I had with DC1, I didn't have with DC 2. Once I was out of bed it was clear it was happening. And DC1 was right on time. DC2 was a week early

Just re-read and saw you've been sick. That can be your body clearing out food so as to concentrate on the birth!
Best of luck!

Both of mine were virtually identical so not a good example for you. Good luck - sounds like you're on your way. 🩷🩵

I was on prenatal with my second. I had a show of blood, so I told the nurse. They came to look at me. They said, "You're in labour."

I was "Am I" They said "yes aren't you in pain and look at your stomach?" I just had chronic backache. That was it.

They got me down to labour word. My daughter was born in 2 and a half hours later.

No gas and air. Pushing was done in 10 mins and was like the worst constipation you can think of. Simples!

Now my 3rd... he was the worst of all my 4

I was 40+5 and pissed off as dc1 came at 36+6! I had a sweep and the midwife said the baby wasn't ready to come.

9pm I got in the bath and my waters broke. I went to bed to try and rest and by 3am I was having regular contractions and went to hospital. Baby born at 8am. Nice and quick and tbh not very painful. My easiest of 3.

DC1 - 38+3 had a bleed and when I was checked I was 3cm but labour never established so put on drip and baby born 3hrs later

DC2 - waters broke at 37+5 checked and was 3cm, again labour never established so put on drip and he was born in less than 2hrs.

So pretty much the same except waters broke 2nd time

champagneplanet · 14/05/2023 23:09

I was induced with DC1 at 41+6 and she was born the following day.

Went into labour with DC2 10 days before due date and 5 days before my scheduled C-section (placenta previa).

Woke up around 7am with pains in stomach needing to go to the loo. Still felt rubbish afterwards, went back to bed and dozed for an hour, felt like I was getting mild period pains. Contractions started around 9am, baby born via EMCS at 11:40am.

Both were completely different experiences.

1st - 37w5d waters broke then labour started about 12 hours later. He wasn't born till 20 hours after that.. spinal needed & forceps as he was stuck.

2nd - 40w3d 1st sweep I lost mucus plug, nothing else. 2nd sweep mild contractions started 3hrs after & baby was born next morning. Great quick enough birth (compared to first)

Currently on 3rd.. don't know what to expect. Have been told the 3rd can be the worst

SausageMonkey2 · 14/05/2023 23:19

Midwife did a sweep around 1pm that broke my waters. Watched a film with my eldest. . Went to the hospital around 5pm. She was born around 9pm

Lovelydaytomorrow · 14/05/2023 23:21

Lost mucus plug at 3pm. No sign of anything else going on at all though. About 10.30pm I started with very very mild contractions. 11pm, phoned MIL to come for child care when they started getting slightly more intense, but still able to walk and talk through them. Waters broke in the car around 12am on way to the hospital and contraction were excruciating by then. Arrived at hospital at 12.20am - LONG walk through carpark and corridors stopping for contractions. DC2 born just after 1 o'clock.

For comparison, DC1 was about a 5 hour labour from strong contractions to birth, but I had some contracting going on all day before that for around 14 hours.

Actually, my first sign with both of them was getting up in the morning around 5am for a poo. I don't think I've ever in my adult life had to get up for a poo other than the day before each of my births!

I felt pretty rubbish that day, slept the whole day after school drop off till pick up. Bent down in the evening to put washing away and my waters burst and started leaking. Went to hospital as my last labour had only been 1 hour 10 and as I walked in the door they went with a gush and my contraction started at full pelt with no break in between and she was born 45 minutes later.

ChickpeaPie · 15/05/2023 16:43

had sex that morning as fed up and wanted baby our. Started niggling straight away. Period like pains all morning then waters broke and needed to push. Baby born half hour later

Theduchy · 15/05/2023 16:47

Both born 40 + 4.

DC1 - week long slow labour but went rapidly to 8cm when waters broke, baby in distress and born with assistance.

DC2 - started losing plug that morning, progressed to niggles, then contractions over the day. 1cm at 6pm, 4cm by 9 and baby born just before 11.

KnittedCardi · 15/05/2023 16:47

Had a bath, mucus plug came away. Went to bed, woke up two hours later, waters broke, two hours after that, DD2 born. Only 30 mins after getting to hospital. Hardly worth going!

Bramblecrumble22 · 15/05/2023 16:50

For a few weeks felt crampy in the evenings, slept fine and woke up pain free. Sunday evening, lost my mucus plug (didn't notice that first time). Monday evening, 40+1 crampy as usual, maybe slightly more. Thought it could be contractions but not convincing enough to time. Went to bed, but got a definite contraction 11pm, woke up dh, called for childcare and the hospital. Was at least 3 in 10 minutes from the begining. When they checked me, my waters had broken, no idea when. I had a midwife appointment Monday morning but didn't ask for a sweep. I hadn't had any vaginally examinations beforehand. Gave birth naturally at 3am. So really I didn't feel any different to other days.
