Hi I was out for dinner with friends and they ordered the chateaubriand and it was medium rare and it was definitely rare in the middle I had eaten two bits and then I remembered! Now I am freaking out. Apparently you won't even l know if you have it. Anyone else been here? Shall I go for a blood test?

It will be ok.

In fact, for a period of time around 2014, rare beef (as long as cooked on outside) was fine in pg according to nhs - as it wasn’t for my first successful pg but was for the second.

That's a pretty horrible thing to say without knowing anything about the OPs history with pregnancies. Or in general really.

It really is a tiny risk. Rare burgers, I don't trust unless it's a very fancy place. Rare steak, I would eat anywhere.

I ate my steak medium when pregnant with my first. I was anaemic and needed the extra iron but well done steak made me gag. Midwife said it was fine. She's nearly 6 now.
Completely understand the fear though.

The French would have died as a country if there was a significant risk from eating medium rare beef as would the English as it used to be our preferred method of serving.

You'll be fine. Your baby would suffer more if you ate fast food every day.

Really try and relax. This stress is far
more risky than a tiny bit of meat. What do you think French pregnant women eat!

IHeartGeneHunt · 13/05/2023 17:22

I ate my bodyweight in very very rare meat every month at a Brazilian BBQ place whilst I was pregnant! Baby was fine.
I actually got truly horrific food poisoning from bad chicken in the same pregnancy and still she was fine.

You'll most likely be totally fine op. You can also catch it from your cat and think how many cat owners there are. I would do as pp suggested, go and make a cuppa and try to relax. If you're very very worried then next time you're in you could speak to your midwife and hopefully they'll be able to reassure you.

To be fair, pregnant French women are routinely tested for toxoplasmosis (monthly, I think?). So they are aware of the risks.
