Dropped sample collection pot down the toilet !

At my first antenatal appointment today I somehow managed to drop the cup they give you to collect the sample into the toilet I then managed to make the decision in the moment that it was ok to still take the sample and not mention anything to the midwife. (Tired, bursting for a wee, too embarrassed to say anything afterwards.)

The cup was just floating on the top so wasn't wet inside but in my panic I did touch the inside of the cup to check it was dry.

I'm now worried that after all that I'll get a false positive for a bacterial infection.

Am I best waiting to see if I do get this result and, if so, being honest and asking for a re-test, or contacting the midwife now to explain I've been an idiot?

It will be fine, they just use it for a quick dip test for UTIs I think. If it was that clinically important for it to be sterile they would give you much stricter instructions.

Thanks - I've obviously now been googling it and see a 'mid-stream' sample is important, but that wasn't mentioned so I maybe they are quite relaxed about it.

I think in my head at the time I was just thinking they were double checking I was actually pregnant, I wasn't thinking of UTIs or anything.

Don't worry too much OP, if there's traces of anything they'll just ask you do to it again.

In my first one I saw a pube floating in the pot! And fished it out with my finger in embarrassment 🤣 which obviously left traces of something unusual. I didn't mention anything, but it was fine.

When I had to do the first one in my second pregnancy I spilt the granules from the pot everywhere (all Inside my jeans!) And had to go back to reception sheepishly for another pot.

Clearly I'm not good at these things!

I dropped the whole pot down the toilet after I’d done my sample but before I’d put the lid back on. Tried my best to get a bit more wee out but couldn’t - it’s even documented on my notes that the sample wasn’t tested 🤦🏻‍♀️😂
