UCLH vs Whittington hospital

Sorry for the very specific and London-centric thread, but I wonder if anyone has any recent experiences of maternity services at either UCLH or Whittington? Seen some other threads but they seem old/pre-pandemic.

I'm based in North London and my GP has asked for me to pick between the two for antenatal care and delivery, having just found out I'm pregnant. I'm honestly feeling a bit lost.

I had my IVF treatment through Guy's and St Thomas' and really rated the care - but that can be up to an hour's taxi ride which doesn't seem sensible?? (Can you tell it's my first pregnancy...).

On the one hand, Whittington is closer (10 mins vs 30 mins taxi ride) but we had some poor recent experiences in Whittington A&E, UCLH seems much more modern, is a teaching hospital with world-renowned doctors, etc.

I'm not wedding to a particular kind of birth but would like to be in a safe, calm and clean environment (in so far as is possible in a central London hospital...!). I'd prob try for the birth centre first in either case.

Feels like a major decision when I'm still not able to fully accept I'm even pregnant yet!

Hello,

I know this was a while back so you probably make your decision already. Which one did you end up choosing?

I had the same decision to make... I ended up going for Whittington because I was told you get a different midwife everytime in UCLH whilst in Whittington you do get a continuity. I was told this by someone who is at the moment at UCLH.

I am only 13 weeks so so far so I can't comment much. I've had my booking appointment, which went very good and got to ask lots of questions, and my dating scan. Dating scan was a bit more dissapointing as we didn't get to see much of the baby, felt quite rushed, like she got her measurements and that's all she wanted and we were just there for that. I have just started a post asking for Whittington opinions if you are interested. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/4899031-antenatal-care-and-birth-at-whittington-hospital-experiences-please
