When did you conceive in your cycle and did you have a boy or a girl?

Just wondering how true the whole method is that ovulation day sex is more likely to be a boy and sex 2-4 days before is more likely to be a girl. I have 2 DSs and would love a girl as this would be my last but if it’s another boy I would love him just as much 🥰 just curious if anyone tried it and what the outcome was :)

I didn't deliberately try to influence which sex child I got, but mine fell within the pattern/I think DD resulted from 3 or 4 days before ovulation & DS the day before ovulation. It wasn't deliberate though - I wasn't tracking ovulation with my first its pure guesswork based on what I later learnt about my cycle.

hi @RubiesAndRaindrops I have slightly irregular cycles and can be anywhere from 28-37 days so I used ovulation tests as I wasn’t getting pregnant and conceived both my boys doing it on the day and the day after the ovulation test was positive. It would be hard for me to try and do it before I ovulate as I never know when I will that month. Maybe it was just coincidence I had two boys close to ovulation! Or the method does work.

Is it not the male sperms that determines sex and therefore a woman's ovulation cycle wouldn't make any difference?

Louemmy19 · 10/05/2023 17:56

@Leftphalange100 ye that’s right but what I’ve read is that it’s the male sperm swim faster but die quicker than female sperm so if you have sex a few days before ovulation it’s more likely to be female sperm that’s left to conceive a girl. It’s not a proven way to do it I just wondered if anyone conceived a girl close to ovulation or if they had a boy

In my case I’ve had 2 boys but it’s hard for me to do it before because I don’t ovulate regularly

This has been debunked :)

I got a bit obsessive trying for a girl with conception dates after our DD died. We ended up with two boys (who I love to bits!) so it clearly doesn't work very well.

ChippyPrincess · 10/05/2023 18:01

I was always quick off the mark to start trying each months and yes, ended up with two girls.

DucksNewburyport · 10/05/2023 18:02

In my case I had sex 3 days before ovulation (DH was then away over ovulation so we couldn't try again) and it was a boy, so the theory wasn't true for us.

YouHeardTheRumoursFromInes · 10/05/2023 18:03

If this was true I would have 3 girls and I have 3 boys! It's been debunked.

Louemmy19 · 10/05/2023 18:05

@ThisOneNow I’m so sorry for your loss, but that is very interesting thank you. I will just be going for it when I get a positive test and seeing what happens I guess!

@YouHeardTheRumoursFromInes ye I’ve heard it’s not been proven but somethings you read women swear buy it that it works! Just coincidence I guess

I conceived a dd twice(year apart!) dtd on day 23 of a 28 day cycle.. Dp worked away so I knew when they were conceived!
After multiple ds's....

Louemmy19 · 10/05/2023 18:12

@Sheepsheepeverywhere oh really! Another one that proves it’s a load of rubbish. I’m on day 22 no positive opk yet must be a long month for me maybe ill have a late girl 🤣

I have BG twins so ... Wink

I think with many of these theories theres a 50/50 chance and the ones who had sex at the certain time and had the corresponding sex baby will always say that it works for them. At the same time there’s a huge amount of women who the theory doesn’t apply to but people tend to focus more on the ones that it “worked” for.

if it was correct I would have two boys but I have two girls. The one I am currently pregnant with should also be a boy and I’m pretty sure it’s another girl.

Janey3090 · 10/05/2023 21:56

I had sex on the day of my positive ovulation test and the day after (likely the day of ovulation), I now have a 4 month old baby girl so I don’t think I would match the theory.

When I found out I was pregnant I did read about the theory though and because of that was so sure I was having a boy! Loads of people do swear by it though X

I posted about this once and was shot down in flames 🤦🏻‍♀️ I fully believe in it now. When I conceived my son I had never heard of it and we were ‘trying’ really hard so it was like every day or every other day but he would have been conceived on or after ovulation day. When I read the baby dust method after hearing about it via Danielle Lloyd’s article in a magazine, I realised that would agree with how he was conceived. When the time came to try for #2 I thought we may as well try to sway our odds the other way since we unintentionally swayed so much towards boy for him. We always planned it have 3 so if it had been another boy I’d have been delighted for my son to have a brother but just thought it would be nice if it was a girl then #3 can be no pressure and we probably wouldn’t even find out the sex.

The baby dust method says you should try only once for a girl and it should be 2-3 days before ovulation. Obviously the day you decide to ‘try’ has to be worked out based on when ovulation has occurred on previous cycles but for me it was quite difficult to predict. Three cycles came and went with the ‘one try’ method. I knew the shettles method was the same idea but the main difference being you can try multiple days in a row as long as you stop 2-3 days before ovulation. By month 4 I was due to completely give up with the swaying as I just wanted to be pregnant asap but I decided to try it the shettles way. We dtd for the last time 2 and a half days before ovulation happened. By the time it came to the gender scan I had forgotten all about the swaying as it was such a distant memory and I was just so glad to be pregnant and for things to be going okay. Sure enough, it’s a girl though! So it’s basically worked for me twice, once intentionally and once without even realising. I’d say it’s worth a shot
