Hi all, today i am 5 weeks 2 days pregnant with our first pregnancy after trying for 2 years… in fact we have been given a midwife appointment the same day as we were due an infertility appointment so that’s a positive change! We found out last Sunday and admittedly I’ve done about 8 pregnancy tests since which all still say +. Since last Sunday I actually ‘felt’ pregnant.. my tummy felt a bit harder/bloated and I did have a few little pains (whether real or psychological it felt pregnant). Since Monday however I’ve had very little to feel apart from the odd bit of pain/discomfort but I’ve had a bit more spotting over the last couple of days too and I’m convincing myself it’s a miscarriage… the spotting is smallish amounts, brown and only there on wiping; midwife said as I’m before 6 weeks there’s nothing I can do other than urgent care if it gets worse or any pain… I’ve attached some pictures of the spotting (sorry!) when I’ve looked online, miscarriage at 5 weeks seems more red blood… midwife said it was okay that it was brown as would just be old blood moving on!!
my husband thinks I’m overreacting a bit… I’m aware I sound like I’m going crazy and it feels like it a bit too! We’ve got an early scan booked privately for a week on Friday but if anybody can please offer me any reassurance or words of advice in the meantime I would be so so grateful!
just so scared after all this time it’s going to be taken from us so quickly 😢

That only looks like a tiny amount. I wouldn't worry. I know it's hard but just try to get to 6 weeks and then see. Take it easy. You only need to be concerned if it's lots of bright, red blood and sometimes even then it can be OK.

Congratulations, you must be feeling very happy and nervous! I agree that brown is old blood and there's very, very little there. Generally you don't get any symptoms until around 6 weeks when you might get sickness or nausea. I didn't get any symptoms at all with my second. Good luck x

@Skyplatypus havent read other comments but just wanted to reassure you. I had this brown spotting almost everytime I went to the toilet from 12DPO to about 8 weeks. Never in my knickers, but always on the tissue.

it made me so anxious but all has been fine, i‘M now 22 weeks. I now still can’t wipe without checking the toilet roll and I don’t think I’ll kick the habit until I’ve had the baby!

Dont worry about spottimg, i have had pink light spotting for weeks and 10weeks pregnant. It shits me up everytime and can last a few days.
They only worry if it is a bright red bleed that fills a pad x

Thank you all so much for your reassurance! So basically, brown isn’t too bad.. when it’s starting to resemble a period a bit more and be more fresh blood it’s worth getting it looked at? I feel like time is suddenly going so slow waiting for our scan! Really hoping all is well. I think because I’ve not really got any other symptoms, I just want to feel something for reassurance… even morning sickness tho I might regret saying that in future (hopefully) lol. Thanks again to you all for making me feel a bit more normal 🙏🩵

I bled like that in my first pregnancy. I also had cramping. DS is 22mo.

Spotting is very common in the first trimester. I had red spotting at 9 weeks and all was fine. I would try and step away from the tests now if you haven’t already and just focus on the early scan. The first 12 weeks always goes so slowly, like painfully slow. But after that the rest goes by in a flash
