...what was your baby's estimated versus actual due date weight? Please could you include what gestation they were born at as well? Thanks 😊

I had a big first baby (just under 9lbs) so had growth scans with my second
my last growth scan was two days before I was induced- so just under 39 weeks.
they estimated she would be 9lbs plus
her birth weight was 6lbs 11!!
So totally wrong- I remember at about 36 weeks they said she was 7lbs- she wasn’t even 7lbs born!

BabyMamaOf2 · 18/05/2023 12:35

@Nina9870 ohh this is interesting, their guesses seem to be way off. My first was 9lb so having a growth scan at 36wks with this one x

massivesalads · 18/05/2023 12:50

Estimated 6lbs at 36 weeks
Born at 39 weeks 7lbs 8oz

Big pinch of salt needed with growth scans, they are just an estimate. I work in obstetrics and all 3 of my kids growth scans were waaaaaay off.

Dd (18 now) was estimated 8lbs at 36 weeks, arrived a week later at a teeny 4lbs 3oz (undiagnosed IUGR, completely healthy, thrived and was home 3 days later)

Ds (14 months now) was estimated at 9 and a half lbs at 36 weeks growth scan, c s3ction at 38+1 and he was 7lbs 8oz - surpringly he needed tiny baby as everything else drowned him, he was a long, skinny baby.

Currently 36+6, had growth scan for this lil girl on Monday and they said 6lbs 2.... section is in 2 weeks, I'm prepared this time with a few tiny baby bits just incase haha!

I had rubbish luck with growth scans haha!

riotlady · 18/05/2023 13:15

DD was estimated over 10lbs, she was born at 38+2, 7lbs 2oz.

Wyewaving · 18/05/2023 13:30

I had a growth scan (needlessly imo) at 41+3, she was estimated to be 8lb 12oz.

She was born via EMCS at 41+5 and was 8lb 11oz.

(Due date 5 March, birth date 17 March)

Chanel05 · 18/05/2023 13:31

Baby estimated to be 6lbs.

Baby came 11 days early at 7lbs 15oz!

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 18/05/2023 13:35

Growth scan at 36 weeks estimated 6lb 3oz, born at 40+6 weighing 6lb 4oz.

Jericha · 18/05/2023 13:37

Scan at 37+5, estimated 8 pounds 4
Born 38+6, weighing 7 pounds 12

Nellie90 · 18/05/2023 15:51

This is really interesting! What a variety 😂. I'm currently 30 weeks and they measured 4lbs. 95th percentile but haven't given me an estimate yet. I imagine they will say 9lb plus if they stay this big.

I wondered if anyone was offered an ELCS with a big baby?? My fear is the baby getting stuck and needing an EMCS!!

Bear2014 · 18/05/2023 15:56

Had a growth scan as standard in my area at 36 weeks. They estimated 9lb at term which would have been the same as his big sister but I knew he was much bigger. I was right and he was 11lb 1 at 39.4 weeks. I insisted on an ELCS and It's the best decision I ever made 😉

Nellie90 · 18/05/2023 16:14

@Bear2014 11.1! Wowsers!! I want to start asking about an ELCS but don't know where to start. My midwife doesn't ask any questions and gets you in and out in 5 mins. She's never even mentioned that it's big. She also told me my iron levels were high and then I got a text from the surgery to say I'm anemic and to pick up a prescription 😂. I think I have a consultant appointment at 34 weeks so can ask then and another growth scan at 32 weeks (2 weeks away).

Bear2014 · 19/05/2023 09:17

@Nellie90 don't worry too much - they usually over-estimate the size at these scans. I had an ELCS with my first baby who was 9lb3 but also transverse (horizontal). So I had already booked my ELCS when I had my growth scan, but also had a feeling he would be big. When he came out over 11, everyone was so shocked someone literally got the calculator out to figure out how much he weighed in pounds as he was over 5kg and I had a constant stream of staff coming into my cubicle to see if I 'needed anything' (to gawp at the massive baby) 😂

Nellie90 · 19/05/2023 13:44

@Bear2014 hahaa I bet they did! Thank you, that's good to know ❤️

abbs1 · 19/05/2023 14:03

kirsty2023 · 19/05/2023 14:11

Had scan at 38 weeks and they said 9lb 13oz
Had ds at 39+4 and he was 7lb 5oz

Seriously79 · 19/05/2023 14:14

DS was estimated to be about 9lbs, but was actually 10lbs!

DD was estimated 9.5lbs but was 8.3lbs.
