Booking appointment not until 12 weeks?

Hi guys.
So I’ve just came home from work to a letter changing my initial booking appointment with the midwife to 25th May meaning I’ll be 11+6 before I see anyone, I find this a little worrying as obviously I’ll need the 12 week scan booking after this which I can’t see being done straight away so I’ll be over 12 weeks for the scan / tests done at 12 weeks. Is this normal timings or should I be phoning them to try and get in earlier?
I have had a private scan at 9 weeks so I know everything was okay then but I feel like this isn’t the point and just feel let down by the timings of the nhs appointments.
Any advise welcome, this is my first baby so not sure if I’m over reacting or not.
Thank you

I was booked late for my appointments as my doctor failed to refer me 🙄. I went for bloods at 10 weeks 5 days and was asked why I was there so late, they like the bloods to be done before 10 weeks. My scan wasn't until 13 weeks 2 days so a little under 3 weeks from the booking appointment. They wasn't concerned about the timing of the scan apparently that was still in the correct time frame

I also wasn’t referred to the midwives when I filled my first form in at 5 weeks pregnant as it was misplaced. Which meant my booking appointment wasn’t until I was 12 weeks. They couldn’t get my scan booked in any earlier than 13+6, so I am just hoping that they don’t move me forward and I can still have the NT test done and not have to settle for the quad test, which is less accurate.
I am also well ready to tell people, but want to wait until I’ve had the scan, but I think lots of people are onto me due to me showing a bit already and my lack of wine!

At my hospital the letter for the booking appointment and the 12 week scan (it can done up to 14 weeks) are sent out separately. Could it be that a separate letter will arrive soon?

With my second I was just after 11 weeks when I had my booking appointment and I had the scan a week later.

You could call them and discuss it if you are worried, I'm sure they will be able to explain.

I filled my form in at 5 weeks too it’s so frustrating isn’t it. This is exactly what I’m worried about with the tests etc. I’m going to phone them tomorrow and see what they say. Did they book your scan when you were at your initial appointment?

I received my booking letters and scan letter at the same time, so I knew when they were booked together ahead of time. I had my virtual booking appt, a physical appt for bloods etc, and then the scan all booked close together. Not sure if that’s just how my trust does it but maybe you’ll get another letter shortly with a scan date already set close to the booking appt?

but definitely check in with them if you’re concerned. Hopefully it’s just a delayed letter 🤞🏼

Oh hopefully it’s the same here then and I’ll receive another letter soon. I’m probably just worrying for no reason with it being my first.
Im going to phone tomorrow and see what they say.

By the same time I mean the same as @Skyeheather, they were sent to me on the same day but different envelopes so could easily have got separated.

Ilovetea42 · 09/05/2023 20:31

I'm not sure where you're based op but where I am booking appointment and scan are done in the same appointment. Infact when we went at 12 wks they couldn't see anything due to my pelvis being tilted so they wouldn't complete the booking part of the appointment and we had to go to hospital for the scan internally and then back at 13 weeks for the booking part but it might be different in your area. We don't get any scans before 12 weeks unless there's a concern.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 09/05/2023 20:33

@Purpleflowers21 the midwife rang the scan department while I was there at my booking appointment and got the date for me, then I got the letter 2 days later in the post.
She asked me if I waited to fill the referral form in … No, I just had to fill in 2. After being told by the receptionist at my doctor that I wouldn’t hear from the midwives at all til 14 weeks. I had to go in to speak to someone else who asked me to fill in another form and I got my booking appointment a few days later, so the 2nd form definitely worked!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 09/05/2023 20:35

I got my booking appointment in plenty of time (got moved forward so I was about 8/9 weeks), just as well as when I rang them 2 weeks later because no blood results or scan date they'd lost my blood samples and the scan referral! Had a quick blood redo and now got my scan for 12+6.

gogohmm · 09/05/2023 21:14

Booking in was always at 12 weeks when I had mine, but scan was at 18 weeks then

Cece92 · 09/05/2023 21:17

When I had mine I called nhs Lothian and she booked my booking appointment with my midwife for 8 weeks and she also booked my scan on the phone for 12 weeks. The midwife done some tests then I got the screenings at my 12 week scan and then I got a letter for my 20 week scan I was 21 weeks at that. I think the 12 week scan is between 11-14 weeks I'm I remember. X

Emmamoo89 · 09/05/2023 21:34

8 weeks where I am. Its been changed as it was later in previous pregnancies

BabyBabyBaby123 · 09/05/2023 22:09

Also just to compare, I have a 16 month old DD and had my booking appointment with her at 8 weeks. Not sure about my dating scan date, but was definitely closer to 12 weeks than 14. So I do feel like my appointments have been late this time around.

PickledScrump · 09/05/2023 22:13

You have until 14 weeks to have the scan and all the tests so try not to worry too much.

Purpleflowers21 · 10/05/2023 01:06

Thanks everyone. I guess I’m just excited to tell everyone and disappointed I’ll have to wait a bit longer than I thought. I’m going to phone on my lunch break for some reassurance that all will be done before 14 weeks.

I was 15 weeks along when I was scanned. They couldn't fit me in any sooner.
