I was meant to get fillings done a while ago and my appointment got rescheduled. The dentist has now phoned me and said I can’t get fillings until after the baby is born. I can’t seem to find any evidence of this online is this true?

I had a minor filling when I was 11weeks pregnant. They wouldn’t do unnecessary work but since I had some pain they did the minor filling. It didnt help the pain and I didn’t bother going again for the duration of the pregnancy.

Hi @Mumma29x, I’m a dental nurse. You can have fillings when pregnant. There is no problem with numbing up etc, the only thing we avoid is amalgam fillings (the silver NHS ones) so what we usually do is remove any decay and put a long term temporary filling in which can then be changed at a later date if needed. Hope this helps.

You can have the white ones when pregnant but may need to pay for them?

I was refused NHS dental work on the basis they wouldn’t do anything without x-rays.
So yes, my experience was no dental assistance for pregnancy.
