IBS and pregnancy - how to cope during flare up?

I’ve got IBS but haven’t had a flare up in years. However, I’m in the thick of one now and feel horrendous - D&V, stomach cramps etc.

I’ve taken cyclizine but was sick only about 20 minutes later. I’ve also taken prescribed (during pregnancy) painkillers but I’m struggling with how awful I’m feeling.

I phoned triage before I was sick as I had the cramping but I’m now certain it’s an IBS flare up rather than anything else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aww my ibs was so bad in my first pregnancy. I don't really think much helped, just kept an eye on foods that were causing a flare. Nice warm bath to help with pain (not too hot). It did stop instantly once I'd had baby though! And was fine in second pregnancy

Im in the same boat. First pregnancy my ibs improved this second pregnancy and my IBS is horrific. I have found I can only eat safe foods, soups, sandwiches and LOTS of crisps.

Iv also had spotting and tonnes of cramping. I am currently waiting on resumts from the doc to rule out a stomach bug, but it is unlikely.

We have a holiday booked in 2 weeks and I womt be able to go :-(

Eat safe foods, keep hydrated and fingers crossed it will ease for us in the second trimester.

@Bunny2021 how are you getting on? I have severe ibs and up until I found out I was pregnant a week ago I was taking mebeverine. I haven’t had my midwife appointment yet but I googled whether I could continue taking my medication and most websites said not to so I immediately stopped.

I am in so much discomfort, the bloating is awful. But I can’t tell what’s caused by pregnancy, the IBS or both so I’m finding it hard to manage. Did you find anything to ease yours? Does anyone know of anything natural you can take which is safe during pregnancy?

Hi all, I have IBS and am 15 weeks pregnant. I was on prescription buscopan and had to come off this. I have noticed a flare at times but I also read that the D of D&V is quite common in the first trimester. I have found that small amounts of "boring" food has helped but also just keeping up my fluids (which I am not great at). It is difficult but also please try and be kind to yourself, stress is a known trigger of IBS so if you can reduce any it would benefit this and baby of course.
