Went for an early scan yesterday and found out I’m 6w+4 today with my first DC. Everything is going okay other than the fact I am exhausted. I don’t just mean a little bit tired, I mean full blown knackered. I can’t keep my eyes open!

I’m currently out of work (due to start my new role in June) and for the past 3 weeks have just been on/off sleeping all day and night. I have lots I need to do before my new role starts but I have zero energy. I appreciate I’m really privileged to be able to sleep as much as I can (got really lucky timing wise because of work) but I’m also worried that I’ll never have energy again 😅

Please tell me this gets better!

Pregnancy fatigue is a pretty common symptom especially at this stage. Hopefully you'll have more energy as you get closer to the 2nd trimester.

I'm guilty of packing my weeks with far too much to do (work, hobbies, pets, friends, weekends away, etc), im 6 weeks with my first too and I'm realising I'll have to slow down a bit! I have a cold atm and tried to carry on as normal yesterday, it was a dreadful idea and I've been in bed since 7pm yesterday! Before cold started I was exhausted but pushed through it, perhaps that why I got ill?

In my first trimester I could not physically keep my eyes open after 9pm. Really common for this to be a thing. For me it did get better in the 2nd trimester

Hi @Pipiscoming2023 yess i slept alot during my pregnancy! 😴

Lovelydaytomorrow · 07/05/2023 18:23

Oh yes, I remember that tiredness. I was working full time in a busy job with DC1, would get home and often go straight to bed at 5.30/ 6.00. DH would bring me up something very beige to eat!

With DC2, I wasn't working, and was in a very strict lockdown so couldn't go anywhere anyway but had a very demanding toddler and I'd nap with him every day. If he didn't sleep well for his nap, I'd bring him in bed with me and we'd both go back to sleep. I was then in bed again by 9pm absolute latest.

I does pass, usually after the first trimester. Mine went when my sickness went at about 16 weeks.

I’m a week in front of you and so tired.
I can push through the work week but spend all weekend in bed or on the sofa.
I socialised for maybe 4hrs the last two Saturday’s and it’s wrecked me for the rest of the weekend.
These bank holidays have been a huge benefit as it’s extra sleeping time. And I have a week off next week.
Everyone keeps promising me that the 2nd tri you suddenly just feel better but between the constant nausea, loss of appetite and constant tiredness I’m not so sure!

SillyOldBear3 · 08/05/2023 15:41

Tiredness was my only symptom in the first trimester.. I could literally fall asleep anywhere if I closed my eyes 🤣 I'm usually very much a night owl and 1am bedtime was my norm.. In the first trimester I was falling asleep most nights by 7pm! I'm in the second trimester and I do have more energy now, but I still need my bed by 10.30pm at the latest!

BertieBotts · 08/05/2023 15:43

That was me in all of my pregnancies - sorry!

Tryingtohelp12 · 08/05/2023 15:44

Yep! I’m sleeping 12 hours at night plus 1-2 hour naps on all weekend and bank holidays. This is my third so not ideal but lucky to have an understanding husband. From my previous two it does get better as you get into second trimester but these are really hard weeks. Im about 9 weeks so hopefuullly coming to the end of it soon. Good luck!!

I slept for months during my pregnancies. It's normal. They're basically parasites, sucking the energy and nutrients out of you.

Pipiscoming2023 · 08/05/2023 20:47

At least I know I’m not alone, but I can’t wait to have some energy back! I can’t imagine how any of you do this with kids already 😅
