Braxton hicks or stomach bug?

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with my first. My partner left me and I'm back living with my dad for now. My mother died last year so I've no-one to ask for advice, so thought I'd try here.

The last 2 days I've had servere stomach pains like a stomach bug and had loose bowels on and off. Early hours this morning the pains were that harsh they woke me up and I had to go to the bathroom.

My stomach tightens around the time of the pains and then loosens again once they've gone.

Baby is still moving around.

Does this sound like braxton hicks? Or just a stomach bug? Or something else?

I would go get checked out, it can also be signs or labour and if not then it's still be a good idea to get checked out if you have a stomach bug incase you are dehydrated or anything. Always better to get a bit of reassurance

Loose bowels can be a sign that labour is near but stomach pain would suggest a stomach bug. Braxton hicks are more like period pain’s than the pain you get with a stomach bug

Thankyou 😊 it doesn't feel as low down as period pains but I'll keep an eye on it. I feel 35 weeks is a bit early for labour hoping she hangs on for a few more weeks 😅

Thankyou, I'll keep an eye on it and give the ward a call if it continues or gets worse

I didn’t find braxton hicks like period pain personally, for me Braxton Hicks were a tightening all around my bump, including at the front and top of my bump. Bump would go hard.

Labour pains were much lower down, like period pains but also in my lower back.

I had horrendous diarrhoea in early labour, but I was getting regular contractions before I got to that point.

Could the pains be trapped wind? I had that a lot when I was pregnant and it was agony. Would make sense if it was at the same time as a dodgy stomach.

Just a point that if it is a tummy bug then if it’s passed to baby there may be more likely to be Meconium in your waters.

Not necessarily something to worry about as it isn’t really that unusual.

If it is there then atleast you know there could be a good reason for it, rather than being being in immediate distress.
