Someone else’s blood in my wound??!!

Hello everyone,

Ugh I hope I’m just being paranoid. Went to the midwife yesterday (25w pregnant) and had some blood drawn. I have super dry and cracked hands/knuckles but they’ve never ever bled before. washed my hands when I got there.

She did the Doppler thing and drew blood where I had my arm resting on a red velvet decorate pillow she pushed under my arm as support. When I walked out of there I noticed dried blood on my knuckle just around a small cut and it’s been running a few centimeters down towards the wrist (opposite direction from the position when blood is drawn)

Like I said before. My knuckles have never bled before??!! But I had a small cut that hurt when I cleaned off the dried blood.

I’m just worried, what if it wasn’t mine?? HIV…Hepatitis…Am I being totally crazy? Rationally thinking it should be mine? Shouldn’t it? Ugh I hate this pregnancy anxiety!! 😭

Why do you think it's not yours, you have a wound which is bleeding. If she put a tourniquet on your arm then that small cut will bleed.

It's your blood. If it was someone else's it would be a splodge, not a run. You can forget about it.

It sounds like it's your blood. It's very difficult to get a blood disease from an open wound anyway. Wounds push blood out, not draw it in.

I’m just worried, what if it wasn’t mine?

It’s yours. Who else’s could it possibly be without you having noticed at the time.

Don’t stress. Hormones and overthinking, that’s all this is.

Get yourself some Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream, in preparation for the baby coming. Use it on your hands right now. It’s honestly magic stuff!

I get cracked hands and knuckles and they will absolutely bleed once the skin gets to a certain point. It usually happens when I have to hold my hand in a certain position for a while - the skin is too dry to be flexible and a crack can become a crevice and open up to the point of bleeding. It’ll be your blood.

You wiped the blood and there was a cut?

meatbaseddessert · 05/05/2023 07:28

Blood dries in a minute. That's what it's designed to do. Anything on a cushion as PP have said would be a dried brown splodge at worst.

Also a blood draw is almost entirely externally blood free or clinics would be coated in the stuff. The likelihood of a decorative cushion having anything on it is minimal and it's even less minimal that there was free running blood on it.

If you've found free running blood near a cut in these circumstances then I think you can be 99.9% sure it's yours.

Thanks for all you comments❤️made me more calm. I wouldn’t even have thought about it if I wasn’t pregnant. Pregnancy always messes with my head somehow. As soon as baby is born I’m my rational self again. Can’t wait🙈

@Hohofortherobbers that was my initial thought too! But the blood would’ve been running down my fingers not upwards on the back of my hand 😵‍💫 (since the arm during a blood draw is held downward) that’s what’s so weird and why I got freaked out!

Most people make a fist or have their fingers pointed in towards their palm when getting blood taken, so blood from a cut would travel down the back of your hand rather than up a finger. You've scratched yourself. That's all.

OddsocksinmyDocs · 07/05/2023 07:02

Completely off topic but my hands get ridiculously dry to the point they do bleed. Try washing your hands with bars of soap instead of liquid hand wash. O Keefes hand cream is amazing too 🙂

Red velvet cushion, was that because of the coronation ?
