Heavy bleeding, multiple scans, no heartbeat, but baby has grown?

While the midwife has cautioned me to prepare for a miscarriage, I am curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I had very, very light spotting at 6 weeks. Talking barely pink tinged discharge when I wiped. But along with some back pain and lower right abdominal pain I was worried about ectopic pregnancy so I got a scan appointment.

The morning of my scan I had a gushing bleed with large clots. I knew for certain it was a miscarriage as I had nearly the same experience last year. Which absolutely confounded me when they saw the baby was still there on the transvaginal scan. They couldn't be certain there was a heartbeat so booked me in for a followup scan 1 week later. They said the bleeding could be from a fibroid. I've consistently been bleeding since then (11 days in total), most days light but with 3 gushers in total.

Had my followup scan on Tuesday this week. Transvaginal again. They were pleased to see significant growth but still a bit smaller than where I should be for 7w3d. Most concerning is the absence of a heartbeat again. I'm booked in for one more scan on Tuesday next week to see if there are any changes.

I'm certain I will lose the baby, but wanted to hear any other similar stories or experiences. I'm 8 weeks along tomorrow and still feel incredibly pregnant with all the symptoms.

I’m really sorry you are going through this worry, I hope everything is ok 🤞🏼 I haven’t been through it myself, but bumping so someone who has may be able to offer advice. Good luck xx

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I’m going through something a little similar in that I’ve also been bleeding for 11 days. I’ve been to the early pregnancy unit a few times (can you go to one near you?) and they’ve reassured me that it’s very common in early pregnancy. Hope everything goes well at the scan xx

Thank you both for your messages.

I had my scan yesterday and results showed there was still no growth and no heartbeat. As there was some growth between the first scan at 6w3d and second scan 7w4d it is likely the baby stopped development during that time so probably 1-2 weeks ago. I would be 8w5d today.

As I still have not miscarried naturally, I have opted for the medical assistance and will complete the ingestion of my second tablet tomorrow to start contacting my uterus.

The first pill I took yesterday was to stop the progesterone hormone from being produced. I still have most of my pregnancy symptoms (tender breasts, nausea, fatigue) so hopefully by the time I take my second pill tomorrow morning that will have abated.

I knew it was highly unlikely the pregnancy would continue with the guidance the midwives provided. The 3rd scan was more to prove without a shadow of a doubt that the pregnancy had stopped. It's still really difficult even though you know to expect the bad outcome to not have a small sliver of hope inside you that maybe, just maybe you can keep this one. But my care team has been great and kept me informed every step of the way.

My only grievance is that they cannot tell me why this keeps happening to me until it happens a third time. I understand the resource limitations our health care system is enduring, but it does not give me comfort knowing there may be something wrong with me and I may lose another pregnancy before they will start to investigate why.

I'm rambling now, but I just wanted to close out my thread in case anyone else searches for a similar scenario. Your experience is not my experience so know the outcome could be different for you. This is just my story.
