TTC, sex everyday or every other ???

So, is it best to have sex every other day through out the whole cycle once period has stopped rather than just 'around' ovulation. My periods are pretty regular 28-30 days but I just don't want to miss my window, so am I best off just having sex every other day?? May sound daft 🙈 please no negative comments, I'm only asking out of curiosity of the best way to get pregnant.
Thanks

I know some people say it's best to do every other day but when I've been actively trying to get pregnant, I've had sex every day of my fertile stage and fell pregnant first month of trying.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 04/05/2023 08:23

I used SMEP (have a read) it was my 3rd cycle of trying but my first trying that. You basically do it every other day from day 8. Then soon as you get your ovulation peak do it every day for 3 days, miss a day and then do it once more the day after. So I guess that's a mix of every day and every other x

Sagittarius25 · 04/05/2023 08:24

We had sex every other day, or at least every 2 days throughout whole cycle. With trying to ensure it was every other day around fertile window. My cycles were irregular though after coming off contraception so we took that approach to cover everything. Fell pregnant on second cycle.

OliverKitten · 04/05/2023 09:48

All three of mine were conceived with every other day. Some cycles we did do every day but I didn't fall pregnant on those ones. Coincidence I expect!
I think it's to do with sperm count. If a man has a healthy sperm count it probably doesn't matter. If it's low, I think evidence shows it's best to do every other day (but please look that up if applicable as I might have remembered wrong)! I expect like most people you don't have a clue what your partner's sperm count is though 😆
Long story short, for most couples it probably doesn't matter much.

In terms of when in the cycle to have sex, I assume you're not doing anything to check what day you usually ovulate? If not, with your cycle I'd have sex consistently between day 8 and day 22 to be safe.

Bobbylola123 · 04/05/2023 10:47

So basically my cycles are usually between 28-30days but last month I went 33 days so can't actually pin point actual day of ovulation as could differ between day 15-19 🤷🏻‍♀️ so I'm thinking if have sex every other day surely that will cover all days?

Same here, OP, in that the month we had less sex - every other day during fertile period + the days before and after (instead of every day, as in the previous months) - we were lucky.

Bobbylola123 · 04/05/2023 12:54

@DollyP88 thinking every other day is the best bet from today as I'm day 8...hoping it works🤞

Every other day throughout cycle is great but it may get to feel very forced and tiresome if you don’t get pregnant quickly. TTC sex doesn’t feel the same as normal for fun sex I found. At first it’s fun and exciting but doesn’t stay that way. That’s just my experience though.

when I got pregnant all 3 times when ttc my second (2 were miscarriages but nothing to do with how I conceived) I did SMEP but didn’t have sex after ovulation day but I used ovulation tests so knew when I was ovulating. I started every other day on CD8 then did peak day and ovulation day. I’m now nearly 24 weeks pregnant and on this cycle we didn’t do ovulation day either as wasn’t together that night and both at work in the day. The most important days are the 5 days leading up to ovulation and ovulation day itself. We dtd only 3 times during my fertile time. We found ttc very stressful though because of the miscarriages etc.

If you can do every other day throughout your whole cycle that’s what doctors advise

Just a funny story to add we were a little too enthusiastic at the start of TTC and we were at it like rabbits just naturally anyway so I came off the pill and we kept in that mode and I remember after 3 months of not conceiving I rang the doctor and she asked how often we were having sex and I said eh about 3 maybe 4 and she like times a week? Yep that's perfect and I was like no a day!! (will never forget her horrified 'oh ok' 😅) We cut down to every other day after that and conceived but sadly I had a MMC but then after that we stopped scheduling as such but naturally were having sex about once a day during that next cycle and hey presto I'm 34 weeks now!

Aw congratulations and good luck with your final countdown! Sorry about your loss. Yes, once I threw my thermometer out (I checked my basal body temp daily and was obsessed) and took a chill pill, we had our lucky month too!

Bobbylola123 · 04/05/2023 13:45

@allgoodthings84 yes is very stressful trying to know the best time to 'dtd' and plan it as such 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm just thinking rather than get too stressed DTD every other day and hope for the best, I do already have 3 other children but never really 'planned' it around ovulation just had sex when it happened and i fell pregnant within 2 months with all 3, now I actually am planning it it prob won't happen that quickly lol x

@Emotionalmama that's funny 🤣 I've ready so many different things saying apparently if u do it every other day it's better for the sperm to build up 🤷🏻‍♀️ but then alot of people say everyday just around fertile window and ovulation but like I said sometimes can be 28-30 day cycle something 33 day. So it's hard to pin point actual ovulation, I've got ovulation sticks but read things about them saying that they aren't reliable and sometimes show a peak when it's too late, that's why I thought sod it il just go with every other day through whole cycle from when period stops and hope for the best lol
Congratulations 👶🍼

Am I right in saying that every other day is usually recommended because sperm can live inside your uterus for upto 5 days? So even if say you have sex on a Wednesday night and ovulate on the Thursday but don't have sex again until Friday that it still should be ok because of the Wednesday night sex? That was my understanding anyway at a basic level.

northernlola · 04/05/2023 13:57

Personally when we've been trying, we've done it every day for about 5 days covering the days around ovulation. Got pregnant first time, both times, but I know that's a lot down to luck as much as anything else!

Bobbylola123 · 04/05/2023 14:02

@Emotionalmama yes I've read lots of things saying the 5/6 days leading upto ovulation and day of ovulation is the most important as the sperm will be waiting for the egg as sperm can live upto 5 days. So yes if u have sex the day before of ovulation that's a good chance as it should be ready and waiting. I'm no expect I'm just saying what I've read, hence why I've come on here to ask people's personal storys as to how often to DTD lol x
