Could it be ok after 2 ectopics?

Hi,

I had a ruptured ectopic 3 years ago, my hcg levels rose to around 180 in 7 weeks. My left Fallopian tube was removed. I then suffered another ectopic late last year where my hcg levels rose to 90 in 6 weeks. I have light bleeding over a long period and little symptoms with these.

I have now discovered I am pregnant again. This time my hcg levels have nearly tripled every 48hours, I would be 5 weeks and do not yet have bleeding.
4w1d - hcg 188
4w3d - hcg 468
4w5d - hcg 1223
this time I have sore nipples, nausea and tiredness. However I have also had pain on one side.

I had a scan at 4w1d which didn’t show any sign of pregnancy in the uterus, or Fallopian tubes or any free flowing blood or mass’ (very early to see anything I know). They did find a corpus luteum cyst though which they suggested would cause the pain.

I have now been told not to continue coming in for bloods until my scan at 5w5d in a weeks time.
As I only have one tube and a troubled history with ectopics - extremely traumatic first one as I nearly died. I am worried that with my levels increasing, I could rupture and lose my remaining tube.

Do I just wait it out and try my best to stay off google?

Hi OP,
I can see why you’d be anxious after your previous losses. I work in an EPU and your bloods are reassuring in that they are increasing as they should do for this stage - we like them to double every 48 hours.

I am not surprised that they didn’t see anything at your scan as your BHCG was only 188 and we usually don’t see a gestational sac clearly until they are around 1000. I would agree that the pain may be because of the cyst or there could be some adhesions maybe from your previous surgery. I would keep an eye on yourself though while you’re waiting for the scan and if that pain increases, don’t be afraid to contact them sooner.

Your bloods would be a good indicator to me that the pregnancy is intrauterine but obviously only the scan can confirm that. I have everything crossed for you! I had a woman this week who had 2 previous ectopics and her current pregnancy was fine so it is definitely possible.

Although I am anxiously awaiting that scan, your response has reassured me a lot! Especially after reading so many horror stories where the hcg has doubled and still been ectopic. (I think I need to stay off the internet).

Difficult to believe that everything could be ok, especially after the last few years. But hoping for a miracle!

When I was 5 weeks till around 12 weeks then off and on till 20 I had pain on one side .. constant and sharp. They thought ectopic at first and I was constantly monitored. I also had spotting and it was just a terrible experience. I’m 23 weeks now but one sided pain is definitely apart of a normal pregnancy

turns out it can be ok after 2 ectopics and one tube!

Scan at 5 weeks and 5 days.

Could it be ok after 2 ectopics?
